Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani appears to have flip-flopped on what he thinks about the Supreme Court potentially overturning its landmark Roe v. Wade abortion ruling. Giuliani hasn't suddenly become pro-life; instead, he told the Wall St. Journal he now won't answer the question of what he thinks.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal published over the weekend, Giuliani was asked: Roe v Wade, should it be overturned?
Giuliani demurred, saying, I don't answer that because I wouldn't want a judge to have to answer that."
"I think a conservative strict constructionist judge could come to either conclusion," he added.
Yet, Giuliani has answered the question before -- as recently as mid-May when he said he would be "okay" if the court overturned Roe, but also okay if the court upheld it.
The former New York City mayor made the same comments during the May 3 Republican presidential debate, when he said he would be fine with either outcome.
The Wall St. Journal also asked Giuliani which members of the Supreme Court meet his standards for intellectual honesty and would be the type of judges he would appoint. Ironically, Giuliani named all of the four judges who have either said they would overturn Roe or are considered the most supportive of doing so.
"[Samuel] Alito, [John] Roberts--I would have appointed either one of them," he replied. "[Antonin] Scalia clearly does [meet the standard], and [Clarence] Thomas. I would have appointed any one of the four of them."
That’s what I think too. The real race now is for VP.
And he shouldn't be considered for Attorney General or DHS either.
The guy's a living, breathing caricature of what a Rockefeller Republican is.
Rooty isn’t conservative on any issue and as for articulate?
Did you somehow miss that crossdresser’s lisp?
and Obama’s clean too (sarc.).
I won’t vote for him in a primary, but guess we’ll see how many do.
Does he now?
I think he just answered the question.
Rudy will not appoint "conservative strict constructionist" judges!
Well, not on enough issues and not on some of the most important. I believe that he does support law enforcement a great deal more than our current president, and I think he is more of a fiscal conservative. But it is not enough. Not nearly enough. (And comparing him to W. is setting the bar far too low.)
Law enforcement? He ran a sanctuary city for illegals and defied court orders to stop. Don’t forget Rooty put mob connected Bernie Kerik in charge of the NYPD.
How can someone who claims illegals have a Constitutional right to welfare and free medical care be a fiscal conservative?
“”I think a conservative strict constructionist judge could come to either conclusion,” he added”
Rudy doesn’t know what one is : )
Proving, once again, that he's a bleeping idiot. I'm going to enjoy watching him lose the primary election almost as much as I'll enjoy watching Fred Thompson win it.
I love how Giuliani just redefines “strict constructionist” to mean whatever he wants it to mean. He’s never thought the Constitution applied to him — now he doesn’t even think he is subject to the rules of language!
What an authoritarian fraud.
I think Giuliani has answered these sorts questions enough. We know what he thinks; he is pro-choice, and cannot eb trusted to nominate pro-life justices in my view.
“[Samuel] Alito, [John] Roberts—I would have appointed either one of them,” he replied. “[Antonin] Scalia clearly does [meet the standard], and [Clarence] Thomas. I would have appointed any one of the four of them.”
Period...end of sentence....next question.
What a moron he is. And he used to be my mayor.
=(
“Just say NO to Rudy McRomney.”
Motion seconded. Motion carried.
the guy was nearly struck by lightning. I don’t suppose he could be transforming his conviction? Nahhh. That’s not allowed.
yeah, and pulled new york out of the cesspool his predecessors put it in.
Huh! Is Rudy really aiming for a deal where he drops out of the Presidential race to become one of the Supremes?
Another very good point, Valen!
