Chao, btw, is married to Mitch McConnell.

omg. she's obviously never been in the men's room of the extremely large global bank where I work, where "diversity" is worshipped.
Let's just say that it's the Americans I see brushing their teeth...

FWIW, she has a point. Too many young people today think the world owes them something and are pretty suprised when their boss doesn't really give a damn about how they 'feel' but whether they produce. She's also right about being punctual and dressing in a professional way. Both are qualities that employers are impressed by and are easily controlled by the worker.
I've never heard the stat about only 30% of the workplace having a college degree - anyone else seen that statement before and have an idea if she was quoted accurately?

Instead of factory slots, there are slots for security guards and food-prep workers.
What an ass. I visited with my buddy last weekend. Dropped out in 11th grade. Owns his own company at 38 and makes bank. My cousin has never seen a college and makes six figures working for an oil company. My wife never went to college and she works in IT.
It’s about an image of self-worth. If you think you are only worth X, X is all you will make.

Do you really expect someone with the surname of “Chao” to be against outsourcing? And yes, she is Mrs. Mitch McConnell. Out of millions of qualified candidates for a cabinet post, W chose to appoint a senator’s wife to fill it for both his terms. It’s this kind of nepotism that weakens the structure of an administration because it limits the range of opinion available to the president.

I guess she’s been drinking the water from the drinking fountain in the Capital building.
Are they continuously trying to do in the middle class workers of this country so the ones that come to do the jobs we won’t can get a promotion?
I’m tired of it all really. Take a look at some fast food restaurant workers and for that matter Chinese restaurants are for the most part always on the health dept list of what one would consider filthy.
Maybe they need anger mgmt classes because our government leaders are not protecting them from having their jobs taken by those who will work for $5.00/hr or having their jobs sent overseas to India and other places.

With some due respect Ms. Chao you are full of $hit. I spend most of my work day in various manufacturing facilities where the workforce is mostly Hispanic. The restroom hygiene is appalling. They routinely wipe themselves and throw it on the floor. Often they perch ON TOP of the toilet and try to hit the hole - they will not sit. Rarely see one wash their hands and they can’t hit the urinal either. But that’s OK Ms. Chao stupid remarks like this do more for our side than you side. Go ahead and keep offending good clean hard working Americans.

Beyond the cheaper cost of labor, U.S. employers say that many workers abroad simply have a better attitude toward work. When someone says, "It's not about the money," it's about the money. Lowlife employers would get even better attitude from slaves... they'd be really scared. How about our guys leaning how to manage people - managing through fear is easier - but never better.

American employees must be punctual, dress appropriately and have good personal hygiene, says Chao. They need anger-management and conflict-resolution skills, and they have to be able to accept direction. Too many young people bristle when a supervisor asks them to do something.
True words. America is in dire shape. I saw a sign in a fast food joint not long ago written by the manager begging employees to follow some directive. He literally used the phrase "I am begging" in the missive. By his name, I assume he was foreign born - but responsible and ambitious. I also direct a few American born louts that could stand for a year or two in a third world toilet in order to appreciate their opportunities here.
God bless America. God help Americans.

My company debated opening a new factory in the US or in Singapore. It is a high tech business where labor is an insignificant cost of the product (6%). The company chose Singapore because the employee pool there is better educated.

They need anger-management and conflict-resolution skills, and they have to be able to accept direction. Too many young people bristle when a supervisor asks them to do something. What this really means is that outsourced labor typically comes from Asian cultures that are mostly obedient societies where people are inculcated to not question their superiors, or are from caste systems where the bosses are of a higher caste than the laborers.
