Britain Must Reject Appeasement of Islamic Terrorists
The Heritage Foundation ^ | August 15, 2006 | Nile Gardiner, Ph.D.

In an open letter to the British Prime Minister responding to last week’s successful anti-terror operations, the leaders of 38 Muslim groups and six Muslim politicians called for immediate changes to British foreign policy, which is “ammunition to extremists who threaten us all.”[1] The letter attacked the “debacle of Iraq” and, in reference to Israeli military action in Lebanon, faulted “the failure to do more to secure an immediate end to the attacks on civilians in the Middle East.” It stated that “current British government policy risks putting civilians at increased risk both in the U.K. and abroad.”

This letter is a wake-up call to the British government. It shatters any illusions that the government’s policy of engagement with leading “moderate” Muslim groups since the 2005 London bombings has reaped any benefits. Downing Street must now rethink its top-down approach to reaching out to the U.K.’s two million Muslims.

Coming just two days after the U.K. averted a 9/11-scale atrocity by arresting 24 British Muslim terror suspects, the Muslim leaders’ letter blames British foreign policy for the attempted attacks. This is a thinly veiled threat: Britain should expect more terror attacks unless it changes its worldview. The letter does not condemn the terrorists involved, attempting instead to establish moral equivalence between the Anglo-American-led war on terror and the actions of brutal terrorists.

I meant that Brownie-boy will hopefully be replaced by a real leader (it probably won’t happen until things really look black, though).

“...We know that the vast majority of Muslims are not involved in terrorism....”

The majority of personnel on a Navy aircraft carrier are likewise not combatants. Only a few personnel: pilots.

They will continue to appease as long as Neville Chamberlain Brown is in power. After all, being a good socialist, he rejects Western values just like the Islamofascists do.

Gordon Brown and the Lord Mayor Of London don’t think Muslims are involved in terrorism. Today he said that we shall not use Muslims associated with any terrorism and anyhow, the WOT is just not applicaple. Both are lefty nuts and we will miss Blair. Churchill would have encircled the whole lot of these Muslim jihadists and wiped them out.

Well, I’ve crossed off London as a possible vacation destination, and I hope other Americans do the same, since Britain refuses to take out the trash.

More in America have died at the hands of AQ than in Britain, and I’m not entirely certain you’ve taken out your trash, yet we still visit your side of the pond regardless. Your sentiments could be construed as cowardice by some, and are certainly a victory for the terrorists. Tell me, did the IRA have the same effect on you?

That said, you obviously haven’t spent any time in the UK before now anyway - if you had you wouldn’t be so afraid. We’re not afraid... never have been... never will be...

“Appeasement will get you nothing but more trouble. Anybody who’s ever faced a schoolyard bully knows this.........”

I don’t think the British need to be told this, they know it far better than Americans do - check your history.

Happy Fourth of July to you also!!! But I don’t think it’s a valid point - it was quite a long time ago now, and a VERY different situation.

Can you honestly say that America’s record over the past 100 years or so is equal to that of Britain? How can you call the lack of support during the Blitz, and the oil and bombs (many of which landed on London) supplied to the Nazis whilst the British were fighting for their lives anything other than appeasment? What about your politicians’ support for the IRA in order to get Irish votes? Would you like me to continue? Like I said, check your history.

My father served in WWII in the US Army Aircorp. He flew missions over Normandy where 75% of his American compatriots were killed. Shut up and have a nice day.

He was doubtless a good man, but that DOES NOT give you the right to belittle a great nation.

One more thing goofball, my father was Irish-American whose ancestors came over to America to escape the potato famine in Ireland.

The point could be made that Karma’s a b*tch.

WHAT A JOKE!!! I’d be laughing if it wasn’t so sickening.
Hypocrite! I hope “Karma” doesn’t chose to knock on America’s door... then again, the point could be made...

Anyway, end of conversation. I don’t converse with terrorist sympathisers. THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION. You’re a disgrace.

I usually don’t get into discussions with posters who purposely misunderstand posts, but there’s always the exception.:)

I’m not condoning terrorism on anyone and I certainly wasn’t trying to belittle the UK. I personally admire the UK and it’s history in many ways. I’m pointing out the obvious - that the British need to pull their heads out of the sand in order to save their civilization. If I didn’t care and didn’t think Britain was worth saving, I wouldn’t have even bothered to post the original article in the first place.

I was responding to your statement (which was in rather bad taste considering today is American Independence Day):

“Can you honestly say that America’s record over the past 100 years or so is equal to that of Britain? How can you call the lack of support during the Blitz, and the oil and bombs (many of which landed on London) supplied to the Nazis whilst the British were fighting for their lives anything other than appeasment? What about your politicians’ support for the IRA in order to get Irish votes? Would you like me to continue? Like I said, check your history.”

It’s not a contest, (something you might want to consider), but yes, I do think that America’s “record” as you put it, over the past 100 years or so, is more than comparable with the British.

The fact that American Irish (and scores of other Americans as well) helped save Great Britain’s a$$ is really something you don’t want to think about. Most American Irish volunteered to help a country that had done nothing but repress and rabidly discriminate against their ancestors for centuries. As an American I’m always just a little pursprised at the bigotry exhibited by some British towards the Irish. In the Karmic scheme of things, it’s always best not to hold a grudge, lol.

I am so glad my Ancestors decided to get on that boat and I am oh so happy and grateful to be an American.

How did I misconstrue your post exactly? In what way am I bigoted towards the irish? The only grudge that’s been demonstrated is on YOUR PART yet, after your, um... unpleasant remark, you claim I’m the one with poor taste?

You’re living in a very strange, somewhat insular and backward (not to mention self-important) world if you think the British “don’t like to think about” the involvement of Irishmen in the war. What a joke! Do you know how many Britons have Irish blood? And probably far more concentrated than yours to boot!

And no, I’m sorry, we were not “Saved” - it’s certainly not as black and white as you like to believe, though America’s contribution is, and will always be given the overwhelming amount of credit it deserves. But if any one nation or individual deserves credit for saving anyone’s “a$$”, it is Churchill - he saved us all.

It might also serve you well to remember that the British people are not the embodiment of our liberal politicians anymore than Americans are theirs. You need to get your own heads out of the sand, and stop worrying about other countries. We’ll manage just fine, as we always have done, thank you.

I too am very glad your ancestors got on that boat (though why you have such a low opinion of Ireland confuses me!!!) - but I’m even more so that mine made the return journey to England.

Now if you don’t mind...
