There are two Is that are a resounding theme in any political campaign for federal office and such was the case when GOP presidential hopeful Tom Tancredo visited Marshalltown Friday.
Immigration and Iraq dominated the discussion with a group of veterans at the Iowa Veterans Home.
The Colorado congressman praised the defeat of a comprehensive immigration reform bill in the Senate this week and said his plan for fixing the illegal immigration situation in the United States is bold and controversial.
Enforce the law, he said. The issue is this: Is there a solution to the problem and is that solution amnesty? And thats really what that [Senate] bill was all about. ... We should either repeal the law or enforce it, but we should not continue to ignore it.
Tancredo believes there are a couple of different factors at work in keeping the nations immigration situation at the status quo.
For the most part, Democrats look at this issue and see a massive number of new voters, he said. Republicans look at immigration and see cheap labor.
Tancredo said the issue would nearly take care of itself if more punitive penalties were levied against employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.

Tancredo is saying what needs to be said.
Tancredo is the dark horse. He’s this generation’s James K. Polk.
“...now, let’s build the 3-foot think wall of Kryptonite, and shoot them all over to their side, using circus cannons.”
no- that’s what needs to be said
Demand a border fence! Build it NOW!! Beef up the border patrol and close our borders!

If they won’t enforce current immigration laws, why would anyone believe they would enforce new immigration laws?
Good point.
But, if there’s enough outcry from the public, they will (reluctantly) start enforcing it.
Absolutely. The current issue of National Review magazine has this by Mark Krikorian:
‘If someone has a better idea, I’d love to have them give it to us.’ That was John McCain, challenging his fellow Republican presidential candidates in early June to offer an alternative to the amnesty bill he helped craft with Ted Kennedy. Well, here’s a better idea: enforce the law.
Tancredo is right. Enforce the laws right now that are on the books. We can pass another million laws but it doesn’t matter a damn if the political will to enforce them isn’t there! The scam of ‘comprehensive amnesty’ went down because the American people know they can’t trust their government to be serious about law enforcement — based on more than 20 years of experience and observation!
A country which ignores vast areas of law, while enforcing “zero tolerance” on others, is on its way to Banana Republic status.
On Illegal Immigration:
The bill's authors "seem to think that they can dupe the American public into accepting a blanket amnesty if they just call it 'comprehensive' or 'earned legalization' or 'regularization,' " said Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., a presidential candidate and strong opponent of illegal immigration. "The president is so desperate for a legacy and a domestic-policy win that he is willing to sell out the American people and our national security."

I believe they will enforce the ones they want. Like grant money for universities to study poverty in Mexico.
Now, about that alleged fence ...
Wouldn't it be great to have a REAL American president again??
The feds won't, they refuse so we'll leave it up to the states.
Tom’s “ENFORCE THE LAWS” stand is one that everyone should get behind and support!!
I believe he has also taken a hands-on approach with the Border Guards who are sitting in jail for doing their jobs!! Sutton was on with Glenn Beck a short time ago...the prosecuter...let’s just say that he didn’t leave me with a warm-fuzzy feeling of confidence.
Bump!!
If you ate food today, thank a Mexican.
