Americans flock to Mexico for dentistry
Washington Post ^ | 07/02/07 | Manuel Roig-Franzia

---snip--- Americans travel to Mexico for stomach surgery, eye exams and routine checkups. But it is the dentistas - thousands strung along the border - who are in the vanguard in attracting U.S. health consumers.

Mexican dentists often charge one-fifth to one-fourth of those north of the border. Their operating costs are substantially lower, and because the Mexican legal system makes it almost impossible to sue them, they don't have to worry about high malpractice premiums.

Sure they do.

They sure do.

I know people who have been going to Mexico to a dentist for years. They are very pleased with the denistry. They do bridges and crowns. If you get there by noon on Friday, you get your "teeth" on Sunday.

My cousin was bitten by a water moccasin and her teeth started shattering about 2 years later. She has some beautiful implants that were done in Argentina.

A Dallas dentist interviewed on TV said he had visited a dental office in Mexico and was surprised that the equipment was more modern than his own.

Most of the patients on the border are Americans and they have to do good work or they wouldn't stay open long without repeat business.

Just about everyone within 90 miles of the border where I live. The local U.S. dentists charge about 8 times as much for the exact same work. Mexican dentists are as good... or bad... as any U.S. dentist.

And, if you’ve ever noticed, Mexicans generally have good teeth (maybe not the “illegals”, but most of them are the poorest of the poor to begin with... if they’re not Guatemalans or Hondurans).

the 58-year-old Salvador chose Mexico, whose border cities are fast transforming into catch basins for millions of bargain-hunting and uninsured Americans.

Please read the article before you start showing your intelligence.

I know a guy who had all of his "smile" teeth capped in TJ. I was like $1700 total, compared to whatever it would have been in San Diego. They did the uppers all at once, I believe then the lowers. He had temporaries for maybe two days while the crowns were made. So, in the timeframe of maybe a little over a week, they were done.

Now, whether he is going to have problems, I don't know, I've heard of really shoddy Mexican dentistry and American dentists not recommending it but who knows? I wouldn't do it simply because of the sterilization equipment. Now, that I think about it, I don't really trust it here, but do moreso than in TJ.

Of course, I went to one here an she said, "You need a crown. It'll be $900." I went to another and he said, "$100 composite filling."

White and black trash is not a bigoted statement. Saying someone is incompetent based on the country they are from is bigoted.

You can always tell the guilty posters. They go and search for ammunication to defend their stupid comments.

"I am sure you are right on some but I would not paint it with a broad brush."

You responded to my post above as bigotry. You really have some serious issues to deal with, may I suggest some cheap over the border Mexican doctor.

I would never go to Mexico for plastic surgery. Too many horror stories. Of course, there are quite a few here also such as the dungeon operations, etc.

while working in Houston one of my employees went across the border to get dental work done....it was so pi$$ poorly done that she then had to turn around and go to an American and it cost her twice as much as that dentist had to fix the screw up from Mexico! All you have to remember is that the Challenger blew up because of the lowest bidder...same thought here - pay cheap, get cheap!

You’d be amazed at all of the people that I know that have had stomach banding done in Mexico. I work in a small community hospital in AZ. All the employees that have had it done go to Mexico. There is even a nurse practitioner that takes her patients there. When there are enough, she makes a trip of it and stays to watch the surgery. Amazing. No way would I ever do this.

A business aquaintance of mr RB's wife did this in Mexico. She died during the operation.

But it's a somewhat risky operation anyway, isn't it, even here ?
