We must eliminate all American flags because they're nationalist and fascist, well, they're the same as Nazi flags actually.

The exception is that we can say nothing about invading illegal aliens with their Mexican flags because that would be racist.

Amazing. This evening, I’ll be buying a spotlight so that I can keep my flag flying ‘round the clock this week.

Is not nationalism -- that devotion to a flag, an anthem, a boundary so fierce it engenders mass murder -- one of the great evils of our time, along with racism, along with religious hatred?

Nope. It's secular humanism that meets this description--not nationalism, not Christianity. So I'm proudly teaching my son to be a Christian first and a proud, nationalistic American.

I guess the death of our country and way of life as we have come to know it is a more attractive proposition?

Eschewing nationalism or religion does nothing particular to keep men and women from doing evil, particularly if the abstraction they substitute is Zinn's precious world socialism. One might even suggest that the bigger the abstraction, the greater tendency to use it to excuse bad behavior. 100 million corpses last century make a pretty strong argument in that direction.

Personally I intend to break out the big flag, shoot a cannon, watch fireworks, and fervently thank God that I was born in a place that protects idiots like Zinn from the real-world consequences of their erroneous beliefs. A large number of his co-religionists didn't make it through the last century courtesy of the very same ideals he continues to profess. One might at least expect a bit of gratitude from him for the sacrifice of the ones who stood between him and their murderers. One might hope that in vain. So if the only function of my waving the flag is to piss him off, it's worth it.

“Since I don’t really know this guy, I looked him up in Wikipedia:”

Even worse, he has fans in Hollywood. Matt Damon grew up next door to this dirtbag, and is enthralled by his ideas. He and Ben Affleck are going to do a miniseries on his book, which is basically about how evil white people really are.

Remember that next time you’re tempted to pay money for a movie ticket with Damon in the cast...especially if he’s playing a patriotic role of some kind (like in Saving Private Ryan).

Nationalism = maybe democracy = maybe freedom = maybe prosperity

Internationalism = dumbocracy = petty tyranny = depression

Dear Howard Zinn

You are free to leave to any of the other nations you mention in your article at any time.

The two are not related.

The nice part of our “Way of Life” is that we fight our revolutions at the ballot box, and without blood and guns.

And the disigners made it so change could in fact happen but very very slowly. That way if “we the pople” decided we started to not like what we are seeing we can slowly change it back or in another direction.

BUT WITHOUT acting like the Muslim hordes and killing our opposition.

Also, draping the scum you refer to in our flag at their death would defile the flag and IMHO those who gave their lives defending our way of life.

On this July 4, we would do well to renounce nationalism and all its symbols: its flags, its pledges of allegiance, its anthems, its insistence in song that God must single out America to be blessed.

No thanks, Howie.

I don’t like either actor particularly. For both of them, the last few movies they did were trash. So I won’t patronize them anyway.

But thanks for the tip. Ordinarily, I don’t make a big deal about most artists — 99.99% of them are kool-aid drinking liberals and general nutjobs, but if I boycotted all of the liberals, I probably wouldn’t enjoy any form of entertainment. I do pick and choose among the ones who are truly virulent in their hatred for the U.S. — those I will stay away from. But Damon and Affleck — well, as I said, I wouldn’t patronize their stuff anyway — they are just plain lousy and so are the movies they are in.
