The phones were meant to set off blasts when they were called, but the devices failed to detonate the mixture of gas canisters and nails in the two Mercedes cars parked in London's entertainment district.

Technical reasons like: The bombs had been disconnected from the phones *before* the calls were made?

It was my understanding that the first bomb was discovered because vapor was seen coming from the vehicle, and the "detonator", ie the phone, was pulled before the call came in. The second car was located by it's connection to the first, and had been towed for being illegally parked. Unless the facts have changed since I read all that yesterday.

At least seven people have been killed by an explosion at a tourist site in Yemen

How clueless does one have to be to be a Westerner taking a vacation in Yemen? Or most anywhere else in the Middle East? Bad enough when they get you on the Spanish or French Rivera or in Greece, or South Padre, but to go into the belly of the beast for "relaxation"? Clueless.

It’s hard to tell if they were second stringers or intentional diversions.

A simple “2 missed calls” etc on the displays can be misinterpreted.

The phone and the cell-towers have a time and date stamp appended. Since they have the cars from the traffic cams, they know what calls were those to trigger.

I wonder if any of these phones were from the hundreds of prepaid cell phones purchased by some Muslims from Detroit who were driving around the Midwest buying some at every Wal Mart they came to? Of course these innocent Muslims were released...no evidence of any terrorist activity.

But that does not really answer the question... it’s the exact times I was interested in.

Several of the “facts” of the case have already been misinterpreted or misreported by a variety of media sources already.

Re: 34

Hand of providence? So all the occasions where the terrorist bomb exploded and killed innocents was when God was rooting for the terrorists? Or was God asleep or on vacation? What we have here is simply a cell of poorly trained terrorists. The next time this happens, we might not be so lucky.

Do you have any idea who God is?
You should read about HIM (and ourselves) in the Bible.

Do you not think that we, a people who wink at the murder of 1 million unborn babies a year, are undeserving of judgment? The people of Judah did similarly years ago. God was appalled with their actions:

Jeremiah 19:5 They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:

You can read about the judgment that HE wrought in verses 6 thru 15...

God gives us space to repent, and return to HIM - but rather than express gratitude to the living GOD for HIS mercy, you'd like to chalk up the work of God's restraining hand to the 'gods of good luck'.
They have a word for that kind of attitude - see Psalm 14:1.

I am grateful that no one was killed in these bungled terrorist attempts over the weekend. We should all know who to thank.
No doubt future attempts will occur, and some will succeed. But given what we deserve, I am thankful that God restrains any of these murderous actions.
Do not be deceived because God does not pour out HIS wrath instantly on our obstinacy. As it is written in 2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Be thankful and glad for the Lord's mercy -- if we do not repent and turn to the LORD, there will come a time where we will receive the long accrued judgment.

Blessed is the Nation whose God is the LORD.

Excellent remark, especially, some people seem to forget, there was an attack planned at Fort Dix and stuff; well; it’s all in the news; I don’t say “bring it on”; but it’s not a time for anyone to cower to evil either.

So you support the terrorists since they are the sword of God.

I was surprised that it was announced on the radio how the FBI goes about tracing links between terrorists. Basically they said that the FBI checks all the phone numbers that a terrorist was in contact with, then checks the contacts of all those numbers, and repeats this up to a certain number (which was given) of levels of separation.

Now one might expect NPR to reveal such information, but why is the FBI telling the news media about it? Not that it is such a terribly large secret, but given that it is still effective, why hasten the enlightenment of Al Qaeda?

Re: 34, 48, 50

So you support the terrorists since they are the sword of God.

I support a people who will humble themselves, and pray, and seek God’s face, and turn from their wicked ways.
When you are resting on the rock of the LORD you don’t need to worry about ‘terrorists’, or other hobgoblins…

Your focus is misdirected. Man is inherently wicked. Sin gives birth to evil, disease, murders, strife, and death (Romans 6:23a The wages of sin is death). As we wallow in this mire, God will at times show HIS mercy and restrain these tribulations. But when sin’s natural ‘blowback’ occurs – and the result man’s evil blows up in our face – you want to shake your fist at God and blame HIM for the fruits of our sin.
And you take exception to those of us who will praise and thank God for HIS acts of mercy…
Seek the LORD and understand that HE is Good.
If we look honestly at ourselves we understand who we are – sinners – working hard for our wages of pain, misery, and death…
But I left out the 2nd part of verse 23 of Romans 6 – the most important part:

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Expect misery, disease, pain, and the appointment with death in this sin-cursed world, but we can take JOY in the fact that God, who alone is Good, has given us the most precious gift of all – eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

I don’t say “bring it on”; but it’s not a time for anyone to cower to evil either.

Don't know about y'all, but in Texas we aren't cowering, we're stocking up on ammunition, firearms, and other such necessities. (Hmm, some iodine pills might be a good idea as well).
