“Republicans drove another nail in George W. Bush’s political coffin and undermined hopes for the growing, winnable Hispanic vote.”
First, Mr. Novak, George Bush does not need any help driving nails into his coffin. He has proven himself quite capable (could be hereditary).
Winnable Hispanic vote?
All of my adult life, I have been a fan of Robert Novak. But when reading this particular column, I am unsure if that will continue.

Balderdash.
The sap-happy idea that latin hyphenates would "go" Repub is evidence of mounting hyphenate insanity on Capitol Hill.
Moreover, to try to win reelection by corrupting the Constitution and undermining our sacrosanct rule of law is tantamount to treason.

Trying to figure out GW's motives is mindboggling during his 2nd term. Dubia, Miers, Amnesty round 1, round 2, round 3.
With the amnesty deal, it strucke me when I saw an article a week or so previous that mentioned nephew George P's popularity.
Perhaps, GW's motives were more personal/family than for the good of the nation. Perhaps he desire to bring 11-30 million Hispanics into the fold was to set the groundwork for Jeb (who has an Hispanic wife) to run in 2012 or George P (who is Hispanic) to run in 20 years or so. Legalizing now would make for a sizeable Hispanic voting block that might show their appreciation by voting Jeb or GP in in the future. The question is: How many no-more-Bushs conservatives would 11-30 million Hispanic voting block cancel out in a general election?

Well novak has on foot in the grave and the other on a banana peal. The man has spent his whole life talking. I wonder if he has ever done anything enjoyable. People like him thinks the world will end if they retire.
