British Muslims Worry About Backlash
Jihad Watch ^ | July 1, 2007

Posted on 07/01/2007 7:42:50 PM PDT by 3AngelaD

Here again, as always, after Muslims are caught plotting mass murder of innocent civilians in the West, the mainstream media focuses on Muslim fears of a backlash that hardly ever materializes. And here again, as always, the Muslims say nothing -- nothing at all -- about being spurred by the latest uncovered jihad plot to start working harder to identify jihad terrorists within their ranks and turn them over to authorities. From AP (thanks to Twostellas):

"Name-calling, anxiety, fear and anger rippled through Britain on Sunday after three failed bomb attacks in London and Glasgow. Government and religious leaders appealed for calm, but some Muslims braced for a backlash — while some non-Muslims looked for someone to blame.

"The attacks sparked scattered incidents of racist abuse on the streets of London, with young white men targeting Muslim taxi drivers and others of South Asian appearance. Glasgow lawmaker Mohammad Sarwar said some Muslims in Scotland had been threatened or targeted with abusive graffiti."

Oh, horror of horrors. Thousands of non-Muslims were targeted and threatened with mass murder. What does Sarwar have to say about what he plans to do to keep that from happening again? "I have spoken to a number of people from the Muslim community and the Asian community who feel very angry," he told British Broadcasting Corp. radio. He said Scottish Muslim leaders were meeting in Glasgow to discuss the attacks' impact on their community.

"They're concerned about a backlash and that's why the emergency meeting has been called."

Muslim anger was directed at the terrorists — but also at a society some felt singles Muslims out for scrutiny whenever there is a terrorist attack. "We are seething with anger about this," said Osama Saeed, Scottish spokesman for the Muslim Association of Britain.

"As a community not only are we just as likely to be victims as anyone else, but we are also looked to in order to provide direction and in some respects take responsibility for this," he added.

"We are sick of being defined as a community by terrorism and having to answer for it."

Then do more to prevent it, and voila! Insults and fears of backlash will evansce!

On an official level, government and Islamic groups say they have made great strides since July 7, 2005, when four British Muslims blew themselves up on the London transport system, killing 52 commuters. In the weeks that followed, several mosques were attacked by arsonists, while others received hate mail. Some women reported having their traditional head scarves pulled off in the street.

Relations between the government and many British Muslims had already been strained by the unpopular wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Many Muslims also feel they were unfairly targeted for suspicion and have born the brunt of the government's tough new anti-terror measures.

They are not being unfairly targeted for suspicion. How many British Hindus have plotted terror attacks? British Jews? British Anything Else But Muslims?

The government has made a point of reaching out to Muslim groups and consulting with umbrella organizations like the Muslim Council of Britain, which represents more than 400 affiliated mosques and organizations. Gordon Brown, who took over as prime minister from Tony Blair on Wednesday, appointed Shahid Malik, an up-and-coming legislator from northern England, as the country's first-ever Muslim government minister.

On Sunday, Brown stressed the need to isolate extremists from the broader Muslim community. "We have got to separate those great moderate members of our community from a few extremists who wish to practice violence and inflict maximum loss of life in the interests of a perversion of their religion," he said.

Yes, we keep hearing that. That sounds like what Blair said after 7/7. And now two years after that, how much progress have we made?

One of my regular customers, who is a Muslim from Pakistan (up in the tribal areas where the Taliban lurk), was saying fervently, “The biggest mistake the West ever made was letting these people who don’t have Western values into the country.” (Note: He’s clean shaven, wears a tie, and works very hard at his job, and is a sweet guy. He also is glad to get back where he won’t get blown up.)

Unfortunately, there will be no backlash.

Again.

Yeah, just wait till an Islamic attack is NOT foiled and hundreds maybe thousands die. Yes, you will see a “backlash” then, it will not be pretty.

As well they should. Brits of old kicked arse when pushed, hope the Brits of today have the same tenacity.

I’ve said this many times. Brits get a bad rap around here on occasion, but when Iran took their soldiers hostage, they were out for blood. You didn’t hear it on the news, but reading UK newspapers you knew the good people of Britain were ready to kick some ass.

In many ways, the British people today have the same “sleeping giant” mentality many Americans have.

Cry me a river.

As you (not you, 3AngelaD) swine told us to ask ourselves after 9/11, you should ask yourselves WHY you are so hated, what was the "root cause" behind this, and change the way you deal with others accordingly.

It's the Hindus, Sikhs, and dark skinned "asian" (in Brit speak) Christians who are lumped in the same boat as you swine I have sympathy for, not you.

Yes, I am thinking that if there is a successful mass attack of some sort, they will be longing for the good old days when the frightful backlash consisted of dirty looks and unspoken resentment.

Still, the guys who did the job seem to be highly educated, well-to-do physicians.

They were running a bomb factory in one of their mini-mansions, and those cars weren't stolen ~ just gave the Punjabi drivers the day off and took them to town to "fill'em up with benezene, eh".

Now, if the wealthier classes of Moslems in UK are that nasty, what are folks to think of the less well-educated Moslems living on the dole?

I think that in both the long run and the short run UK's Moslems are going to find themselves being held accountable for all sorts of stuff (that they've been doing, encouraging, supporting, or acquiescing in).

Both the brits and ourselves are able and willing to kick some arse but I’m convinced it will take another (God forbid), and larger, 911 type attack before its implemented.

Why is the first thing we hear from the Muslims is “don’t blame me” instead of DAMN THEM?

Radical Islam is an insane murder cult; moderate Islam is its Trojan Horse in the West.

If memory serves me right, the Brits “negotiated” the release of the prisoners? No serious threats, no bloodletting, no bombs … just negotiation and total submission.

I thought that in the UK cases, these are 1st generation native-born Muslims from Middle East/South Asia ancestry. So, this isn't exactly an immigration issue.

Another 9/11 or worse attack here in the US will spell the demise of Islam in America.

We were incredibly restrained after 9/11. I wouldn't bet on restraint now.
