The attack was NOT thwarted. The VBIEDs failed to detonate.
I'm not so sure of that. From the description by the ambulance crew, there was a jet of vapor inside the car and a strong smell of petrol. The bad guys may have still been in the process of forming the required gas cloud for a fuel-air bomb.
