CHICAGO, June 29 (UPI) -- In a bold move to jump-start years of declining sales, Sears is reportedly placing some free-standing stores inside some K-Mart facilities. The discount chain is renting about 7,000 square feet inside existing Kmarts to Sears dealers in four towns -- Claremont, N.H.; Freedom, Calif.; Pell City, Ala.; and Zephyrhills, Fla. The dealers sell hardware, appliances, lawn equipment and some consumer electronics, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Some observers see it as another step toward an expected merger.
During the past year, Sears Holdings Corp. has been moving its best Sears brands into Kmart in an effort to reach more shoppers and rekindle sales.
Craftsman tools and DieHard batteries are on Kmart shelves and one out of every 10 Kmart stores now sell Kenmore appliances.
In Liberty, Missouri, there is a Sears Grand, which is a cross between a Sears and a K-Mart. Really strange, but my daughter seems to like it.
Yeah ... drat that dastardly Ed Lampert ... he drove SHLD stock down from 20 bucks a share to 170 bucks a share! How irresponsible!
The fact that Raul Yzaguirre, past president of La Raza for 8 years and Hillary Clinton hispanic campaign manager is on the board at Sears seems to have gone over the heads of conservatives. Why am I not surprised?

I didn’t know that. What I meant was it sure is better than ordering from a catalog and not having it fit when it arrives. Great quality clothing.
Sears made a huge mistake in my opinion when they closed down their catalog operations in 1993. They could own the internet sales business if they still had their catalog stores, distibution centers and shipping operations in place.
They gave up on catalog too soon even thought it lost money only on paper.

When the merger first happened I predicted that they would end up with Craftsman tools, Lands-end clothes and Sears appliances in Kmart stores .
I still think that is the direction they will move
they are also going back to the rural outlet stores. The places where you can walk in and order stuff. Appliances and TVs and batteries and such will also be sold there.
I know because they are actively seeking a place to put one in my small WV hometown.
Amazingly enough, a number of items my parents bought at Montgomery Ward still work flawlessly.....
Yeah, but when they have a sale, or when you buy hardware, Sears generally offers a pretty good deal. Just this week, I bought a pair of tires from Sears; the tire price was higher than at Sam’s club or Costco, but Sears included the balance and installation, so the total price was the same. Further, the tires were better quality than the closely-priced equivalent at Sam’s or Costco (same traction rating, same temp rating, better wear rating, and inflatable to 15 psi higher pressure). A few weeks before that, I bought a bunch of nice 100% cotton dress shirts on sale for $6.00 each, and they were better quality than the $20.00 cotton button downs at Sams (though Sam’s has the $20.00 price all the time, and Sears’ non-sale price is higher). Overall, I think Sears has really gotten a lot better in Southern California over the last few years.

When I was young and we lived on a farm, it was always easier to pick up the huge Sears or Monkey Wards dream book and just send in an order and wait a few weeks for the postman to come.
We bought chicken Feed in 50 pound sacks and that was a great time for the kids.
We would all pile into the truck and head to the feed store.
Mom would let each one of us pick out feed sacks that we wanted.
For those who do not know, cotton feed sacks with bright patterns when empty furnished material for our school shirts, quilts and any other thing you can think to make.
It was a simpler time where on Saturday night we would get in the car and drive to town.
The local furniture dealer set up a television in his display window with sound to a speaker out side and we would watch our favorite shows.
The crowd usually got thick about the time the Grand Ole Opry came on with Minnie Pearl (Howdy)and Little Jimmy Dickens.
Well I digress, hope it wasn’t boring....
However, Sears backed up their guarantees with excellent maintenance plans.
My mother bought a set of Kenmore washer and dryer 23 years ago and my brother is using them now.
Besides Whirlpool used to be one of the best on the market along with Amana.

Cramer’s friend has yet to attract more than a few cars at a time to the Sears parking lot here. The K-Mart has been closed for several years now even though they always had a lot of cars in their parking lot. What does Sears need to do?
I have a suggestion: have a salesman somewhere so if you want to buy something they can handle the action.
One store I never shop at is moving inside another store I never shop at . . .
Now, if (say) Boston Market were to open shops inside Hobby Lobby stores, I would totally be in. ;)
Or Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse inside of a Sam’s Club...
Okay, I just started drooling.
