You'll have to wait to see 'Sicko'
Valley Press on ^ | Saturday, June 30, 2007. | LAVENDER VROMAN

Michael Moore's controversial health care documentary "Sicko" pulled a vanishing act this week, disappearing from a Lancaster theater where it was scheduled to open Friday.

Terrell Falk, Cinemark vice president of marketing and communications, said the film's distributors, the Weinstein Co. and Lionsgate, were responsible for the sudden scheduling change.

"The distributor pulled the print," she said. "They've pulled prints from us all over the country."

A Lionsgate spokesman said "Sicko" was opening in "limited release" and would expand to the Antelope Valley area "in a few weeks." "Our print count just got really limited" due to budget constraints and other considerations, he said.

Representatives from the Weinstein Co. did not respond to requests for comment by press time.

According to the Associated Press, the Weinstein Co. and Lionsgate planned to release "Sicko" in approximately 400 theaters to start, roughly half the number for Moore's last film, "Fahrenheit 9/11,".

Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of the Weinstein Co., said because of its wider release, "Fahrenheit 9/11" came and went at theaters faster than he wanted.

I hope they wait until next year to show it. Maybe it will scare people into rejecting European socialists.

Bummer. No matter, the MSM will pimp the film for ya.

I might have been dreaming, but wasn’t there sort of an “anti-sicko” flick coming out too?

It must be pretty bad. Yesterday I saw a segment on CNN bashing the movie for twisting the facts.

Maybe they want to time it better with the 2008 elections.

Those interested in seeing it might want to read the Kurt Loder's review at MTV.com first.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago. The entire 2:05 show is a blatant advertisement for socialized healthcare. Almost the entire second half of the “movie” is shot in Canada, France, UK, and Cuba (this is a fact; not hyperbole).

So many Americans are rushing to Canada for their superior health care...Cuba too.

That was the plan. I figured it would take quite a while for "it" to freeze over.

Now that would not surprise me one bit. I got into an e-mail exchange with a guy who writes on the MSNBC health site. He is some sort of doctor, but I wouldn't go near him. Anyway, he had written a glowing piece about how the film was the truth about US medical care, so I told him Moore was nothing but a tool for Castro. I also related the story of a friend of mine in the UK who was put on an urgent list for testing and treatment, so she “only” had to wait 2 months for an ultrasound. Who knows how long she will wait for actual treatment.

He responded by saying that if I called Moore a tool of Castro’s, then I obviously had not seen the film. I’m not sure what that means, but I sent him some stuff from FR, including some of the horrors suffered by political prisoners in Cuba and a link to the review of the film by boxofficemojo. I haven’t heard back from him.

CNN’s Sanjay Gupta was pointing out that there is a lot less waiting and a lot more transparency in America’s health care situation.

It’s good that you’re writing these people. Too much time passed where level headed Americans ignored these nuts as benign anomalies. Unfortunately, they’re malignant.

Advise the ‘doctor’ that should he decide to get care from Cuba, the connection between his colon and larynx may go unnoticed.

LOL I couldn't care less if it was never released. I've never seen a Moore movie and never will.

Man, when even CNN bashes it it must be reeeallly biased.

I’ve been seeing more and more that everyone thinks it’s one-sided. I’m thinking it’s going to tank within a few weeks.

Weinsteins are playing it smart. “Brokeback” was limited in the same way, and made a fortune.

"The distributor pulled the print," she said. "They've pulled prints from us all over the country."

I wonder if there were embarrassing errors that would discredit the film even among gullible liberals, or maybe somebody threatened a lawsuit for slander, or something like that? Maybe there's some creative editing going on even as we post.

I hope somebody has an original print saved.

That kind of game works for stuff like, 'Trivial Pursuit', 'Super Mario Brothers 3', and 'Tickle My Elmo', and it may have helped 'Brokeback', but there is no jostling by anybody to see 'Sicko'. There's really no "buzz". As soon as the teenagers find out it's not the latest slasher flick, it's dead. There's a VERY limited market for a propaganda film as narrow and transparent as 'Sicko'.

'Brokeback' had a larger built-in market (sodomites and city-dwelling liberal goofballs), but 'Sicko' will be of interest ONLY to socialist/Democrat activists and maybe a handful of health-care professionals.

When is Michael Moore going into a fine Cuban hospital to get his stomach stapled? Perhaps a private room like this one at Hospital Placetas?

Outpatients are also being treated.

You'll want a private bath.

Children are also treated to Cuban Care.

Having a baby? No problemo! OB-GYN care is first rate!
