This ***hole Ignacio has been living here for a decade and still can't speak English.

My first thought as well.

Ya' know? If they at least made an effort to learn English, I might be a little more sympathetic to their plight.

The fact that they are here for years (and in some cases decades) and can't even bother to learn basic, conversational English just tells me that they have no desire to assimilate.

My wife is a Russian-speaking Ukrainian. She studies English constantly. She knows there is no "Press 3 for Russian" so she learns the language the best she can.

The same with my Japanese daughter-in-law. First she came on a student visa, not knowing anyone or speaking English. In three years, she earned a degree while studying English and worked. She graduated (with no help from our government) from a university with a degree and spoke fluent English. When she finished her degree, she felt honor bound to obey the visa laws here, and went back to Japan.
