Arizona Sen. John McCain has introduced federal legislation to protect talk radio shows from the reinstatement of past rules that required dissenting voices be given equal time on their shows.
McCain and fellow GOP Senators John Thune of South Dakota and Norm Coleman of Minnesota have put forward legislation preventing the reinstatement of the 'Fairness Doctrine'.
The Fairness Doctrine was done away with in 1987 but previously required political radio shows to offer equal time to opposing viewpoints as part of their Federal Communications Commission licenses.
A number of Democrats and liberal advocates want the Fairness Doctrine put back in place. They do not like the fact talk radio is dominated by conservatives such as Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and Laura Ingraham.
McCain said imposing such rules would stifle free speech and there are plenty of political viewpoints in the marketplace.
Conservative radio talkers have criticized McCain for his stance in favor of immigration reform.
McCain’s only doing this so he can look at himself in the mirror without seeing the traitor that he’s become.
Wow...so now we have to write laws to protect Constitutional rights?
Too late indeed. He has ZERO credibility and will forever be known as the RINO who tried to legalize 12-30 million ILLEGAL aliens.
Absolutely correct... I too was "identified" "ostracized" and "stigmatized" by the liberals at my alma mata, Johns Hopkins University because I am a conservative. These morons ferreted me out. I never talked politics.
Pence's legislation is the only reason McCain did this, to ride on Pence's coatails and try to make himself seem liberal. He has probably finally looked at his poll numbers and realized what they meant, it is CYA time in the senate!
*Wow...so now we have to write laws to protect Constitutional rights?*
My thoughts exactly!!
John McCain hates free political speech.
McCain-Feingold is his legacy, and that legacy sought to limit criticism of elected government officials. He is a threat to liberty.
This effort is just a piece of charlatanistic hypocrisy.
Maybe McCain’s going senile?
Gosh, for once I actually agree with McCain. Maybe he is trying to have voters forget his ravings about immigration.
But the dims have no problem of course with the left controlling tv news.
He has been seen rolling ball bearings in his hand. I think it would be wise not to mention the “Caine Mutiny” near him. He is sure it was the crew that ate the strawberries.
F
Defending McCain-Feigold, he told an interviewert hat he "could do with a lot less first amendment if it meant more orderliness in government."(Close paraphrase.) The man is simply not fit to legislate, much less serve as Chief Executive.
I’ll never trust him, he's proved to be too unstable, but as they say even a blind squirrel finds his nuts occasionally.
McInsane is indeed insane. What good is any ‘GOOD’ legislation if you legalize 12-35 million new 3rd world Democrats who will elect enough idiots to nullify and/or overturn ANY good legislation you may try to ever introduce. This is but EMPTY platitudes falling on the ears of the ‘gullible’.
I gotta get them conservatives on my side, yeah, that’s it,the strawberries...
You mean like a repeal of McCain-Feingold?
