McDermott to Cheney: Resign or face impeachment By Chris Good June 29, 2007 Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) told Vice President Dick Cheney to resign or face impeachment Thursday night as three more House Democrats lent their support to a plan to impeach the vice president.
The vice president holds himself above the law, and it is time for the Congress to enforce the law, McDermott said in a floor speech. For the good of the nation, the vice president could leave office immediately.
McDermott was one of three House Democrats to come out in favor of impeachment Thursday, along with Reps. Keith Ellison (Minn.) and Hank Johnson (Ga.). Including the three lawmakers, seven members in June have shown new support for impeaching Cheney.
McDermott cited Cheneys refusal to cooperate with the Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO), which, pursuant to an order signed by President Clinton, oversees the handling of classified documents by executive agencies. McDermott denounced a 2004 claim that Cheneys office is not part of the executive branch.
When a sitting vice president claims that he is not part of the executive branch of government to which he was elected, it is time to remove him from office, McDermott said.

I’m so glad that McDermott, Ellison & Johnson have hit upon the brilliant idea of impeaching the vice president as a means of fighting Islamofascism, securing our porous borders and facilitating development of more energy resources. You know, us rubes out here in flyover country are just not smart enough to see the true brilliance of their plans. And to think they cleverly disguised it as petty partisan politics as usual from the democrat party. I’d never have figured it out...

Yup, McDermott is right on the ball. Hey, Nimrod, the claim was 3 YEARS AGO! However, if you want to waste more time and money tilting at windmills than actually doing real damage to the American public by attempting "real" legislation, you have my blessing.
The less you and the rest of the Pelosi "family" attempt in the next 18 months, the better I like it.

Jim McDermott is talking pretty tough for a person who was involved in an illegal wiretap of his own a few years ago.
But of course, nobody living still remembers that incident.

Jihad Jim must think this his beloved Saddam’s Iraq. The Constitution doesn’t have a way to impeach the Vice President because as the President of the Senate he would be the judge in his own trial. The only time the USSC chief justice presides is in the case of the President.
Perhaps Jihad Jim should give Bill Clinton a call to get more details.

Just to spite the socialists, Bush should step down so Cheney can be President and wreak all kinds of havoc with his newfound executive powers.

From Answers.com
"McDermott, who is regarded as one of the House's most liberal members, has recently gained a degree of national prominence in the wake of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks and the 2003 invasion of Iraq."
"A vocal opponent of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, he appears in Michael Moore's documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 discussing the aftermath of September 11."
McDermott has called for an investigation into the use of depleted uranium by the U.S. military. He is featured on Anti-Flag's 2006 album "For Blood And Empire" talking about the effects of depleted uranium on the song "Depleted Uranium Is a War Crime".
McDermott also praised Anti-Flag for encouraging young people to register and vote leading up to the 2004 presidential elections.
McDermott is often strongly involved in Congressional debates on gay rights. He was one of only 67 congressmen to vote against the Defense of Marriage Act.
On December 11, 2006, a report released by the House Ethics committee concluded that McDermott "violated ethics rules by giving reporters access to an illegally taped telephone call involving Republican leaders a decade ago." The report stated, "Rep. McDermott's secretive disclosures to the news media ... risked undermining the ethics process regarding" former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, the committee said. It said McDermott's actions "were not consistent with the spirit of the committee." Like he really has any credibility

McDermott might have wanted Saddam for VP...to bad he's dead.
Weekly Standard 10/14/2002
So how does it feel to be used as a propaganda tool against your own country? McDermott, who was asked that question by CNN's Jane Arraf when he was still in Baghdad, said it feels fine. "If being used means that we're highlighting the suffering of Iraqi children, or any children, then, yes, we don't mind being used."
