McDermott to Cheney: ‘Resign or face impeachment’

McDermott to Cheney: ‘Resign or face impeachment’ By Chris Good June 29, 2007 Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) told Vice President Dick Cheney to “resign or face impeachment” Thursday night as three more House Democrats lent their support to a plan to impeach the vice president.

“The vice president holds himself above the law, and it is time for the Congress to enforce the law,” McDermott said in a floor speech. “For the good of the nation, the vice president could leave office immediately.”

McDermott was one of three House Democrats to come out in favor of impeachment Thursday, along with Reps. Keith Ellison (Minn.) and Hank Johnson (Ga.). Including the three lawmakers, seven members in June have shown new support for impeaching Cheney.

McDermott cited Cheney’s refusal to cooperate with the Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO), which, pursuant to an order signed by President Clinton, oversees the handling of classified documents by executive agencies. McDermott denounced a 2004 claim that Cheney’s office is not part of the executive branch.

“When a sitting vice president claims that he is not part of the executive branch of government to which he was elected, it is time to remove him from office,” McDermott said.

The Vice President's office is part of the Executive Branch.

However, it is not an Executive Agency.  Agencies are set up by Congressional legislation.  The office of Vice President is set up by the Constitution.  The doctrine of separation of powers aborts this mind numbed imbecile's arguments.

I say, lets fold our arms protectively around the Veep and throw Karl Rove over the fence to them.

I say, give them NOTHING. Screw them!

What would get them excited is the smell of red tuna.

Can we put Fred Thompson in as VP for the next year or so? :oP

Only after Bush resigns and makes Cheney President.

On my way home from work, I turned on the liberal talk show yesterday to hear their position on the immigration bill. I heard nothing but trash talking on Cheney. She said we should take away his health insurance and hopes he has heart trouble....

Erm, I don’t think so. You don’t wanna be an incumbent running in the next election. That’d be like a kiss of death. Especially after this latest immigration fiasco.

As Golenn Reyonolds notes, per the Constitution, Cheney would preside ovver his own trial.

Has McDermott’s ethical challenge been resolved by the House yet,BTW?

“When a sitting vice president claims that he is not part of the executive branch of government to which he was elected, it is time to remove him from office,” McDermott said.

I would flip that around and say that if a sitting representative thinks Congress is a law enforcement agency, he needs to be removed from office.

McDermott deserves a beer bottle up side the head."

Amen, and not an empty one either. The mere sight of that low-rent, slimy-bellied human cockroach makes my butt crave icewater.

To the rest of the nation, that walking polyp is the kind of human trash who can occupy a "safe seat" in The Emerald City.

It looks like the Democrats are looking for ways to unite the Conservatives.

First, the Kennedy immigration bill and now this.

Cheney to McDermott:

"Take your best shot b!tc#!"

Incidentally, i'm arguably one of the biggest Ron Paul supporters on this board, but McDermott is screwy by any rational person's standards.

Impeachment for what?

Doesn't matter, the Dims will just pick a few that are SERIOUS, because as we all know it is the SERIOUSNESS of the CHARGE, not the substance of the case against him, that matters!!

Jihad Jim must think this his beloved Saddam’s Iraq. The Constitution doesn’t have a way to impeach the Vice President because as the President of the Senate he would be the judge in his own trial. The only time the USSC chief justice presides is in the case of the President.

How about a source on that tidbit of constitutional law? As goofy as the idea of impeaching Cheney may be, it could still be done, they certainly could, thoreticaly, ramrod it through The House, and probably fail in the Senate as they did with Clinton.
