Hero Cop May Have Saved Scores Of Lives [UK TERROR PLOT!!]
Sky News ^

Sky News sources say one of the first police officers on the scene of the London West End car bomb may have saved dozens of lives by diffusing the explosives before the bomb squad arrived. It is believed the quick-thinking cop recognised that the car was wired to blow up, jumped in and disconnected the trigger device, thought to be a mobile phone. This backs up an eye-witness account of a police officer briefly entering the metallic green Mercedes before running for cover.
People are being warned to stay vigilant after the discovery of the "massive" car bomb, which could have killed hundreds of nightclub revellers.
The device, which contained 60 litres of petrol, a large amount of nails and several gas canisters, was found in the Mercedes early this morning.

Quick-thinking. ~Crazy~, but he probably saved the day.
60 liters of gas would have made for a very, very nasty scene.

The Muslim Council of Britain, the largest organisation representing Muslim groups in the UK, urged people to help the police find the perpetrators.
Secretary-General Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, said: "It is now a duty upon all the rest of us to help the police so that they can bring whoever was involved in this plot swiftly to justice".

Yes, “defuse” would have been the correct word to use in this context of dismantling or disabling a bomb.... “diffuse” does not make sense in the context of removing wires or separating bomb components, unless the English have such a use of the word that is unfamiliar to me.........
from dictionary.com
diffuse:
verb (used with object)
1. to pour out and spread, as a fluid.
2. to spread or scatter widely or thinly; disseminate.
3. Physics. to spread by diffusion.
verb (used without object)
4. to spread.
5. Physics. to intermingle by diffusion.
adjective
6. characterized by great length or discursiveness in speech or writing; wordy.
7. widely spread or scattered; dispersed.
8. Botany. widely or loosely spreading.
9. Optics. (of reflected light) scattered, as from a rough surface (opposed to specular).
