As long as the majority of US voters remember Hitler, there will be no nazi type embedded or tatooed ID. Claims that Social Security cards were not meant to be ID’s are true to the extent that was what the Politicos said about it, but what did FDR intend? What did his right hand man Alger Hiss intend? Could be they were just tellin’ a whopper back then.

It is a hold over from Hitler. The way fascist, socialist totalitarians use such things was well noted. As was the result of gun confiscation.

Americans who remember Hitler will never support National ID and Do not support registration of firearms for the same reason. Especially if the id is biometric ie. embedded or even tatooed.

Also reminds one of the “mark” that christians know will be required in the end times.

Yes and look at history to see how the national ID and gun confiscation helped the Nazi government.

These privacy concerns are imho bunk

Much discussion at college in '64 about loss of privacy. The concern was more about Big Brother than Big Gov't.

Yep, no bill, but the same old, same old mess.

Which is still a marked improvement over the far greater mess the new bill would have created.

“Do you really think that the ‘sanctuary’ states are going to comply with this act’s provisions? Nope, they’ll go right on doing issuing DL’s to illegals.”

I think we should abolish sanctuary cities.

We heard the same lame excuse about ‘we cant enforce the law’ from the pro-amnesty crowd. The fact that some politicians are against it doesnt mean we shouldnt try to do what we can.

“Illegals will still be able to get a driver’s license”
Not in practically every state, most of whom require valid social security. it should and will be forbidden in *every* state, if those states follow the will of the people.

“This law is a complete ruse for a trackable National ID card.” I already have had a national ID for the last 20 years ... it is called a *passport*. Someone explain to me what the BFD is. And dont give us any cr*p about how hitler did it. That is the same kind of lazy analogy Turban Durbin used to compare Gitmo to the Gulag. I can’t even get on a domestic plane without a drivers license. Why can’t we simply make that form of ID something more menaingful and less forgeable? The fact is this: It should concern all of us that illegal aliens can get driver’s licenses and use them to board planes.

“Americans who remember Hitler will never support National ID”

Americans who remember 9/11 will support sensible provisions to prevent the next one...

The left has their moonbats and we have ours...

Hey a few simple questions:
- Do you drive without an ID?
- Have you ever visited a foreign country? Did you manage to do it without a passport?
- When you buy groceries and pay with credit card, are you ever asked for your ID?
- have you ever been on a plane?
- Did you file a tax return? Was your social security number on it?
- When you ask for a bank loan, did you use your social security number? When they did a credit check, how much of your past financial life did they glean?

Most Americans are using some form of ID EVERY SINGLE DAY.

We dont live in Hitler’s Germany, we live in a complex and mostly free society that requires people to *know who you are* in order to trust that you do certain things - like walk out of a store with valuable merchandise, board a plane, or drive a car.

What is wrong with beefing up the requirements for IDs so that they *really mean what we think they mean*. For 99.9% of us law abiding people, IT MAKES NOT DIFFERENCE TO US. The only difference is that it puts a crimp on those who would abuse the system and get IDs based on aliases.

Do you really want to support that?

As for ... “Especially if the id is biometric ie. embedded or even tatooed.” ... this is paranoid delusionary nonsense. Tattoos?!? Nobody is proposing any such thing, only paranoid opponents use that as a boogeyman. Picture ID with a finger print scan for full validation will be more than sufficient for these purposes.

WHAT THE REAL ID IS REALLY ABOUT - VERY SIMPLE IS THIS - ITS ABOUT MAKING THE DRIVERS LICENSE IN EACH STATE A REAL FORM OF ID THAT CANNOT BE EASILY FORGED OR BASED ON AN ALIAS - THAT IS ALL!!

http://judiciary.house.gov/newscenter.aspx?A=430

Chairman Sensenbrenner stated, “The goal of the Real ID Act is straightforward: it seeks to prevent another 9/11-type attack by disrupting terrorist travel. First, this legislation does not try to set state policy for who may or may not drive a car, but it does address the use of a driver’s license as a form of identification to a federal official. American citizens have the right to know who is in their country, that people are who they say they are, and that the name on a driver’s license is the holder’s real name, not some alias.

“The 9/11 hijackers could have used their passports to board the planes, but only one did. Why? Those murderers chose our driver’s licenses and state ID’s as their forms of identification because these documents allowed them to blend in and not raise suspicion or concern. Mohammed Atta received a 6-month visa to stay in the U.S. yet received a Florida driver’s license good for 6 years!

“The Real ID Act will end this by establishing a uniform rule for all states that temporary driver’s licenses for foreign visitors expire when their visa terms expire, and establishing tough rules for confirming identity before temporary driver’s licenses are issued. “

“Yes and look at history to see how the national ID and gun confiscation helped the Nazi government.”

So did barbed wire and rubber stamps. Is every barbed wire fence and every rubber stamp an act of tyranny?

When CATO says “moving in the right direction”
they mean they *liked* the fact that Z visas and other provisions would lead to further open borders.

Anything the government imposes on it’s people is an act of tyranny if the people do not want it or are snookered into it. And especially confiscation of guns when the constitution guarantees the individual right to bear arms.

ROTFLMOL. You sincerely need to take a chill pill. All that scream and shout will make your blood pressure rise. I was simply explaining why some people object to the National ID.

I did not say it was anything other than an emotional reaction, and did not endorse letting foreigners run rampant around the country. Nor did I say we should not try to id foreigners who come here. Someone asked why the objection, and I offered an explanation of why some people do. I was born after World War II, hence was not talking about myself. Nor would I pass judgement on those who lived through that time and denigrate their opinions by calling them moonbats.

But if you go talk to some of the World War II VETS such as my Dad, it is a very emotional reaction, and do not even be calling him a moonbat. He is a very intelligent man, who served honorably. And I certainly do not argue with him about this issue. He has earned the right to have his opinion. Besides he might have another stroke.

Your post notes all kinds of ID already in use. So, according to you, we already have all kinds of ID anyway.

I live in a small town. Most people already know each other - no ID needed. Almost never asked for ID. All my credit cards say ask for ID instead of signature. Never get asked. I worked in St Louis for a national bank before retiring. My fingerprints are already on file, so they already got me anyway.

By the Way, if they try to tatoo me and mine - that ain’t gonna fly and neither do I if I can drive. I have a rule against leaving the continental USA. Well I did go to KeyWest once, but we drove LOL.

“Anything the government imposes on it’s people is an act of tyranny if the people do not want it or are snookered into it. “

I want it. The American people want it. The ‘snookering’ is being done by the paranoids who are falling for ACLU misinformation.

I don’t want people driving cars with fraudulent IDs and I don’t want people boarding planes with fraudulent IDs.
I don’t mind passports, I dont mind giving my fingerprint to prove it on my passport, and I want it for the would-be terrorists too, to get them identified better.

The Govts one main job is security and this is a part of it.

Highlights of Real ID:
• Strong security standards for the issuance of drivers’ licenses
– proof of lawful presence in the U.S.
– all states must comply, to eliminate weak links in domestic identity security
– tough physical security requirements to reduce counterfeiting
– drivers’ license expires when an alien’s visa expires
• Tighten asylum system abused by terrorists
– allow immigration judges to determine witness credibility in asylum cases
• Closing the 3-Mile Hole in the fortified U.S./Mexico Border Fence Near San Diego
• Inadmissability and Deportation of Terrorists – keep terrorists out of U.S. by ensuring all terrorism-related grounds of inadmissability are grounds for dep

LOL. You really should try some decaf AND a chill pill. Common sense measures are OK with me, and I think everyone should have to prove who they are when they vote too. Have you written your congress critters and Senators about this issue?

But in the posts on this thread people were asking about National IDs and Data bases and asking a question which I attempted to answer without editorial comment.

You then apparently leaped to some conclusion and began posting like a harpy. Are you an equal opportunity haranguer or is this just some pet peeve?
