Dubya's End

DUBYA'S END

BORDER BILL THE LAST BLOW

June 29, 2007 -- PRESIDENT Bush's disastrous second term has not been without its moments. Unfortunately for him, these moments have come primarily when members of his own party have risen up against him to defy his wishes. That's what happened yesterday. For the second time in four weeks, Republicans in the Senate put a stake through the heart of Bush's beloved but politically catastrophic immigration bill.

It's also what happened in the early months of the second term, when Bush chose to nominate his unqualified aide, Harriet Miers, to the Supreme Court - and finally backed down and had her withdraw her name after three weeks of lobbying and complaining.

(snip)

He would not and could not back down on immigration reform, an issue far too close to his heart. But after the Senate first rejected the bill at the end of May, Bush could have left it alone and accepted defeat. He could have seen reason, as he did in January 2004 when he first proposed a piece of legislation and was met with an uprising from his conservative base - whereupon he prudently dropped the subject because he was running for re-election and needed a united and enthusiastic Republican electorate behind him.

(snip)

And perhaps most interesting, Bush chose to believe it was more important to court potential future Republican voters - those illegals who would have gained a "path to citizenship" under the terms of the bill in 13 years' time - rather than listen to the concerns of present-day Republican voters.

Also, since you brought that up; where are you going to get the workers after you deport all the Mexicans??

You already tried that trick and got whacked once.

You don’t debate..you piss on everyone.

This from someone who falsely claims that opposing this bill killed the fence, when a fence twice as long has already been signed into law by Bush. Liar.

Here is the text of the 2006 Secure Fence Act

Notice the milestone dates. It is worth noting that this bill was passed overwhelmingly by both houses. Even Hillary voted for it. Of course we know why. This was just before the 2006 midterms. And Congress wonders why the American people don't trust them.

Bush...then Clinton...then Bush....then Clinton[?].

A generation in the wilderness led by these bozo's. 24 straight years [if Hitlery wins] is way too much to take.

For Pedro’s sake people.

12 million illegals would be a drop in the bucket in a population of 300 million.

There are 12 million between California and Texas alone.

The figure is more like 40 to 50 million.

Quoting 12 million just plays into their liberals and La Raza’s hands.

Good points, all, although I voted third-party in 2004 because of Part D (and No Child Gets Ahead and CFR).

But Hillary's chances, IMO, are approaching 100%. It's the dims turn as the country is whipsawed from one wing of the bi-factional, socialist, ruling party to the other. We're going to nominate some Dole-like loser, who got the big money contributions for the primaries, and get our tails handed to us.

“little pin-heads”

A term I haven’t heard in long time but very apt.

And if the feds don't want to deal with the problem, state and local governments will.

To those on this post who think that NOT passing this bill leaves us vulnerable, this strategy has been overlooked.

As Tip O' Neil said, "All politics are local."

And the affects of illegal immigration that are so aggravating are local.

This will be the Achilles heel of the illegal's advocates. More and more communities that deal with the problem will be seen as desirable places to live and do business.

Sorry fanatic, if you are talking about Rasmussen, then we’re looking at 47% who say they won’t vote for Shrillary.

Now those are astronomically bad numbers but not over 50%. Al Gore can reach in and snap the nomination from all the Rats. But then again, who ate Al Gore?
