Sweden is in the European top three and probably one of the world’s best when it comes to attracting Venture Capital. In relation to GDP, Swedish companies are the best in Europe

According to the EVCA (European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association) 71 billion euro was invested in last year by Venture Capital companies. That is an increase with 50 percent compared to 2005. Among the European countries Swedish companies are the top receivers in relation to GDP. 1,44 percent of the GDP was invested by Venture Capital in Sweden last year. Great Britain is second with 1,26 percent and the Netherlands come in third with 1,05 percent of GDP.

In absolute numbers Sweden comes in third place. Great Britain received almost half of all invested capital in Europe. France came in second. In Sweden, 43 billion Swedish crowns was invested by Venture Capital. 6 billion went to upstart-companies and the remaining 37 billion was buyouts.

I don’t get the title.

Sweden is one of the most socialist countries in Europe.

“I don’t get the title.

- True and not true.

Sweden has HIGH TAXES, yes, but the present Conservative government is continously reducing them tax even though it’s nothing like a shock treatment to the system.

Furthermore, the overall attitude to Capitalism is more intelligent and friendly than in most parts of Europe. The income tax and sale tax is high, but corporate taxes are NOT. This is very important for attracting investments.

Also, Swedes in general have given up the traditional European idea of strikes as a solution to achive higher wages and most of them are aware their private economic situation primarily depends on the health of the Swedish business sector, not the Government.

At least, the dismantling of Socialism has begun in Sweden. Hopefully, that is what will happen in countries in Germany, France and Italy too.

With a population equal to London, it is the only European country other than France that can produce its own fighter planes.

Part of the difference is that Sweden doesn't nail corporations with these huge taxes like we do here in the States. We like to call ourselves capitalists here, but our levels of corporate taxation are some of the highest in the world.

It's something that frankly needs attending to, but it's not going to be popular with the lugheads in the general populace, especially the liberal screamos. You wonder why companies go overseas? Well... It's one of the reasons I think we need a true business execuitve in the White House and not just another politician.

Corporate Taxation Levels:

Hungary .....18%
Ireland .....24%
Switzerland ..... 24.9%
Norway ...... 28%
Sweden ..... 28%
UK ..... 30%
Korea ..... 30.8%
Australia ..... 34%
Netherlands ..... 35%
Italy ..... 37%
France ..... 37.8%
USA ..... 39.4%
Canada ..... 44%
Germany ..... 52%

And really, how many people do you think are going to read/respond to this thread? Most people don't give a rip until they get a chance to complain about how the economy is working, and then they don't ever even stop to question why.

- True.

However this is not only about a belief in Capitalism, it’s also about Sweden disposing of a certain type of advanced industry, cooperation with countries like the US and The UK, certain historical reasons and general national defence policies.

If Sweden had took the present path (a Conservative government, tax cuts and making a healthy business climate top priority) already in the early 1970’s, Sweden today would’ve been richer and our fighter planes even better.

I love Sweden. If I had to leave the US, once upon a time, I would have put Sweden at the top of my list. However, from here, other than the high personal taxes and a socialist view, it looks like there's a bit of a muslim problem to be dealt with.

I love the Swedish approach to fighters. The Saab Gripen is an excellent delta design. It'll be interesting to see what their next gen aircraft will be.

- Even though the Swedish tax revenue as percentage of GDP is the highest in the world, Sweden still has extremely healthy corporations and GDP growth has been very good during the last 15 years.

It’s possible that as long as businesses are not exposed to extreme levels of taxation and scared away from the country, it doesn’t really matter how people (via democratic elections) choose to tax themselves so to say.

On the other hand, perhaps both Sweden and the US would function even better than today if both countries enjoyed low income taxes, sales taxes and corporate taxes?

“it looks like there’s a bit of a muslim problem to be dealt with.”

- I agree, but TODAY the Muslims aren’t much of an immediate threat to most other Swedes. The vast majority of Swedish Muslims are very moderate. The real Muslim threat to Sweden is a LONG TERM problem.

“Do you live in Malmo???”

- No, I live in Göteborg/Gothenburg.

The situation in Malmö is not as bad as it’s often said to be. The situation in the area of Rosengård is out of control, yes, but all of Malmö does not suffer from these “immigrant problems” (unemployment, poor knowledge of the Swedish language as well as the culture and society in general, high crime levels, unwillingness to mix with “infidels”) and neither does the whole of Sweden.

However, if Sweden continues to welcome hordes of Muslims that already are unwilling to adopt or are easy prey to Saudi Arabian financed Islamic mission (people from Northern Africa living in Sweden are the typical example of this, many were rather secularized upon arriving in Sweden, now they have become faithful Muslims and wish to isolate themselves), the survival of Swedish ethnicity or at least the dominance of Swedish ethnicity on Swedish soil is threatened on a long term basis.

I don’t hate Muslims and I’m well aware most of them aren’t extremists, but I can’t get into my head why many Swedish politicians consider it such a good idea to import thousands upon thousands of non-Westerner’s to Sweden. What is the great plan?

What would happen if the U.S. gave up Socialism?

Millions of women and children would die. Old people would be reduced to eating dog food. The world would turn against us. Halliburton would put a President in the White House.

Rush Limbaugh would be piped into every home, giving marching orders to an army of mindless robots who used to be free. We'd all be forced to work 60 hours a week for Wal-Mart for $3 per hour and no benefits. Every 12 year old would own a machine gun. It would be AWFUL.

Any questions? Did I hit all the liberal fever swamp talking points?
