Interesting those routers are attached to class A addresses. ATT must own a large block of them. I always assumed class A’s were reserved for government use.

I just did another trace route to freerepublic and it looks like ATT owns most of the fiber backbones in the country.

"Just use an encrypted proxy server and they wont have a clue."
Or easier yet just build encryption/decryption into the networking client used to trade the files. It would slow things down a bit at first but that would be solved within in few generations.

Anyone who pings or issues a trace route to nsa.gov goes immediately on the no-fly list and a bug will be placed in your trousers when you drop them off at the dry cleaner.

I wonder if this spying will apply to only end users of AT&T networks, or all traffic that simply routes through AT&T backbones destined to end users on other networks.

No idea.. I was simply posting how you could see if AT&T was in there...
To: RebelTex
MD - what can you tell from this? Your connection is behind two routers with private addresses on the LAN (the IP addresses starting with 192.168.xxx.xxx, the ones with no DNS symbols on lines #1 and #2.) Your ISP is RoadRunner. You are probably near Dallas, TX.
Why do a couple of sites have no rDNS?
Private IP addresses usually do not have domain names, unless you are operating a DNS server on your LAN or specifying the names in a host file.
When posting a traceroute, it's usually a good idea to omit the first few lines in order to not reveal your IP address. In the case of your traceroute, I would have suggested omitting line #3.
