I still don’t get, in my gut, why they don’t do the popular thing and pass enforcement measures. Do the voters mean so little in today’s politics? Only money and 30 second ads matter?

I know I will walk away from the GOP table. I will vote 3rd party. This isn’t a simple rift as the corrupt GOP thinks it is, it is a deep crater that will destroy the party and destroy the USA that I love.
Sorry guys, I will never vote GOP again.

The comprehensivists are right to say that the passionate opponents of amnesty are a vocal minority of Americans; no side of any political debate enlists both the allegiance and the passion of a majority of Americans. But this minority is passionate, large, and a crucial component of any winning Republican coalition. It will interpret passage, not to mention the insults that have come its way in recent weeks, to mean that the party is throwing away its support, and it will not forget.BS. Most Americans oppose amnesty and only 26% support this bill.

Those votes are for the Dems. We should have a unbreakable filibuster IF Republicans looked after their own long term political interests (like the base wants them to). Short term is where they have to be thinking.

If they believe that, they are greater fools than I take them for. Show us what you can do with enforcement, then we can talk about the rest.

Their contempt for us is palpable. They think we are racist and dumb, and we don’t matter. I will never forget this. NEVER.

“Sorry guys, I will never vote GOP again.”
With all due respect, never say never. I remember when I was disillusioned with Nixon and his rather liberal political agenda, dishonesty and sucking up to Mao. I actually voted for a third party. I could not vote for McGovern. I nearly voted for Carter when Reagan lost the nomination to Ford. After Carter was elected, I realized that as mediocre as Ford was, as rotten as Nixon was, enabling the election of a Democrat is the WORST choice. Ross Perot convinced many to vote for he, and it helped to give us Slick.
Support good GOP candidates. Vote against bad GOP candidates. We won’t always win, but we will never win supporting a third party.

Sorry guys, I will never vote GOP again. I've learned to never say never. What I won't do is support the party structure or support someone ~just because~ they wear the GOP label.
That's a big swing for me. Six months ago I was all on the bandwagon to support "whoever the nominee is." I'll still probably vote for the GOP candidate next year.
But the level of my participation at the grass roots level remains to be seen.

You're exactly right. I agree with the thrust of the editorial but had to read that part several times because it just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the viewpoint. It doesn't as you have pointed out.

But they seem sincerely to believe that after this bill is passed, the partys divisions will heal. Dream on is right. The result of this bill passing will be the exact opposite - full divorce.
To: Corin Stormhands
We see the direction the GOP is taking. I no longer look at anything that is happening as party politics.
The GOP and the Democrats look like each has the same goal and just merely fight over who gets to be in the driver’s seat.
Until people can see what is happening goes beyond party politics, they will be unable to wake up.
If you read George Washington’s farewell speech to the nation, he talks about his fears of “parties”. The speech describes all the dangers to look out for that are happening right before our eyes. We just didn’t pay attention to his warning.
I think the next elections won’t matter a whole lot if this bill passes. The GOP will have to mirror the Democrats just to have a chance.
Both options are deplorable now, and will be increasingly deplorable in the future.

Sorry guys, I will never vote GOP again. We need a Goldwater or Reagan again . . . We can help make that happen by ceasing to listen to main stream media and political commentators view of who is electible and who is not. Just work hard in the primaries and give in the primaries to the conservative and ignore the "slings and arrows" thrown at them.

It’s so rare that what’s right is also what’s popular. In those few cases where they ARE the same, government is sure to fight tooth & nail against it.

Sometimes it ain’t about who you’re votin’ for, its about who you’re votin’ against.
A vote for Bush was a vote against AlGore or John Effin’ Kerry. No matter what my issues with Bush (and there are a LOT of them...) he’s still a better man and a better President than his rivals would have been.
That said, we do need to punish the GOP traitors, starting with Lott, Graham, and McInsane.
