TO read the newspapers, one would believe US power was in steep decline. There are prophets of error, the many critics who believe US foreign policy has gone seriously wrong, especially in Iraq. And there are prophets of weakness, such as Yale historian Paul Kennedy, who wrote even before the end of the Cold War that the US had succumbed to "imperial overstretch". How much more are we overstretched today when we face crises in three or four places across the globe? I am sceptical about these arguments. The great fact is that the US has become a dominant nation. Even if the US fails in Iraq, there still is no other country that can replace the US in dealing with the world's problems.
Among Western countries, it's not just the US but all the Anglo nations that stand supreme. By Anglo nations I mean Britain and all the countries that were settled chiefly by Britain: the US, but also Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Nice uplifting article. The question arises in the current immigration debate . . . how long will our Anglo-American traditions survive with tens of millions of illegals here and tens of millions more coming?

Well, until the USA finally DESTROYS ITSELF FROM WITHIN. Then it will be just another socialist, Euro-style, third-rate economy, dictated to by the United Nations, and not capable of wiping its own butt. Then the world will have to find another “Great Satan” to suck money out of, and denegrate.
I would say that the U.S. was not settled by Britain, but in spite of Britain.
Constantinople will prevail! I’m sorry, what was that? Everyone please make your way to the nearest exit.
In answer to your analysis that America was settled in spite of Great Britain, all the census records from the first one in 1790 until about 1850 listed no names except English ones, and these were people who had been here before we became a country. Somehow England was allowing them to settle in this country. Why, I don’t know. Maybe they were trying to settle Canada, and the people just kept walking across the border?
Luckly for us, the media doesn’t speak for the people of this country or people of other free nations. Push us too far and they’ll realize how strong the American people are. They are already seeing it by many of the newspapers being put out of business.
Our military might is why the Jihadis are just going to go for a massive decapitation attack against us and not try to attack us conventionally.
And because the Leftists refuse to admit the Jihadis want to kill us we dont have the cultural stamina to defend ourselves.
Sorry, I guess I got carried away. This is an attaboy.
Early settlers being one thing, a nation another. I suppose there was a revolution for a reason.
