The Honor of Ron Paul - Joseph Sobran

The Honor of Ron Paul by Joe Sobran

"He may have become at last what he has always deserved to be: the most respected member of the U.S. Congress. He is also the only Republican candidate for president who is truly what all the others pretend to be, namely, a conservative. His career shows that a patriotic, pacific conservatism isn’t a paradox."

Seriously...when one member in good standing of the John Birch Society praises another...shouldn’t there be a Barf Alert in the thread title?

I've noticed a lot of Ron Paul fans have very recently joined FR.

We're being spammed! ;-)

I forgot to address this in my last response, but the reason I specifically chose abortion and gay marriage as questions about traditional values and liberty is because they are both issues which ARE BEING DEALT WITH through federalism by social conservatives (i.e. debunking the common stereotype of the “big government social conservatives”). What else do you think the dozens of referenda and ballot initiatives about these two issues AT THE STATE LEVEL have been all about?

Ironically, the same thing happened to Pat Buchanon’s uncle.

Libertarianism as a philosophical principle espouses "the free flow of labour", and that national borders ought not be a hindrance to any individual exercising their right to get the most benefit from their labour.

That is true to some extent, but misleading if you leave out the remaining part of Libertarian positions with respect to immigration. First off, no Libertarian I know of is advocating illegal immigration when they advocate reducing restrictions on where and how people can travel and work. This is totally consistent with conservative positions, where the opposition is to illegal immigration, not immigration per se. But the most important part of the Libertarian position is not providing any government benefits for immigrants:

"However, the answer to this problem lies not in cutting off immigration, but in cutting the services that immigrants consume. The right to immigrate does not imply a right to welfare -- or any other government service."

"Suppose we increased the level of immigration, but the rule would be that immigrants and their descendants would have no access to government social services, including welfare, Social Security, health care, business subsidies, and the public schools."

Seeing the whole story puts the idea of more open (but still regulated) borders in quite a different light. The Libertarian position on immigration is actually quite a bit more "conservative" than the position any Republican politician has taken.

“I heard that Ron Paul lost a couple relatives at a Nazi concentration camp...they fell from the guard towers.”

So this is truth? Got a source?

Libertarians have only existed as a party since 1971, for crying out loud.

No, silly, everyone knows Libertarians created the heavens and the earth in six days and then rested on the seventh. Libertarians also invented the internet and they can catch speeding bullets in their teeth and leap tall buildings in a single bound and stuff. ;-)

And don’t give me crap about anti-Zionism isn’t anti-Semitism. I don’t see any of them complaining as much about money to Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, et al or US presence in Korea, Japan, Germany, Britain, the Balkans, or any of the other international hot-spots that are vital to US interests.

So let me get this straight. If I believe foreign aid to anyone is unconstitutional (which I do), I'm anti-semitic?

Damn, the Framers were all anti-semitic. Matter of fact most everyone throughout the 18th and 19th century were anti-semitic. And it's now 'conservative' to call a Constitutional stance anti-semitic. What a brave new world we live in....

It’s an oft-reapeated joke because of Ron Paul’s consistent favortism to the arabs at the expense of Israel, which he cloaks in faux “isolationism” or “libertarianism.”

It’s kinda like how Ron Paul is against non-binding resolutions “on prinicipal” -— well, except when he votes “yea” in non-binding resolution against the recent increase in troops in Iraq. He’s transparent.

Interesting to note that Daly Kos types AND Ron Paul supporters both lack a sense of humor.

Someone needs to put that on the list of similarities.

I've seen it several times here on FR. Someone makes what is obviously a joke and the RP fans demand that you source it. LOL

I have yet to see a Ron Paul fan who demonstrates even a hint of a sense of humor or sense of fun.

I don't mean to hurt you at all.

But even you have bitten at me a couple of times on these threads because I don't support Ron Paul. ;-)

Let's see how long it takes before someone demands that you source your tagline. LOL

(Make up a source. The media does it all the time.)
