Coulter's response was that maybe she should just start saying that she wished Edwards was killed by terrorists, since Bill Maher said that about the Vice President and no one made as big a deal about that as they have made about Coulter calling Edwards a girl.
As usual, Ann made a witty comment about media double standards and, as usual, her words are being twisted.
Edwards needs to make her husband the victim once again. He’s being beaten up again by big bad Ann Coulter. The commentator brought up her “F” word comment, and she simply pointed out that she was attacked while Bill Maher can express dismay that the Vice President wasn’t killed in a terrorist plot and skate by unscathed. Her comment was completely snide “so I guess I should be saying the too bad John Edwards wasn’t killed by terrorists” (paraphrasing).
Of course Elizabeth Edwards and her husband believe that the entire War on Terror is nothing more than a bumper sticker anyway, so who’s doing the greater harm there, Elizabeth.
Real men aren’t ashamed to hide behind their cancer stricken wives.
I am so glad someone else sees it that way. She was illustrating a double standard, not wishing Edwards dead. Any other interpretation is just knee-jerk, or from someone who didn’t hear the entire exchange.
Thank you. I was trying to write what you so skillfully wrote. You summed it up perfectly. The MSM is claiming she called for Edwards to die in a terrorist attck. She did no such thing. Bill Maherr did say that about Dick Cheney and there was not even a sigh from the MSM.
I agree with wideawake.....
I don’t understand your comment. How can you say she wasn’t imitating Maher, but later say she made the comment since Maher made a similar one?
Seems rather contradictory.
And my point is there are better ways to point out the double standard. Coulter’s comment gives the media a convenient out to completely ignore the double standard....which they will.
But the terminally PC have no need for subtlety. They want to be loved for being "nice". There has never been any political survival, ever, by being "nice" *.
I look at the bright side. Freedom of speech for everyone. I have the means of sorting them out.
Ann, you go girl!
“She isn’t imitating Bill Maher. She made a comment some time ago about Edwards’ manliness and Edwards’ wife reprimanded her, telling her that she was cheapening the debate.
Coulter’s response was that maybe she should just start saying that she wished Edwards was killed by terrorists, since Bill Maher said that about the Vice President and no one made as big a deal about that as they have made about Coulter calling Edwards a girl.
As usual, Ann made a witty comment about media double standards and, as usual, her words are being twisted.”
The difference between the Right and Left is only one side has humor and brilliance wrapped in a neat tightly wound bow.
When you look at Maher’s comments about killing the VP, there is neither humor, nor brilliance just a swarmy belief thaat he’s right and that that course is perfectly acceptable.
If anyone thinks about the context between the two, it’s as clear as day that Ann is NOT on the same playing field as Maher and his ilk. A sophisticated sense of humor and political wit should never be banned from the marketplace of ideas.
