Virginia Sen. John W. Warner has said little about whether he will run for re-election, but the 80-year-old Republican is giving clear indications that he will not return for another term and that his coyness is merely an attempt to help Rep. Thomas M. Davis III, a fellow Republican, replace him.
"There has been considerable discussion about the possibility that [Mr. Warner] might delay an announcement of candidacy, then announce he wasn't going to run, to allow Congressman Tom Davis to build up at the beginning of the campaigns, which would give Davis an advantage," said Morton C. Blackwell, chairman of the Virginia's Republican National Committee and leader of the conservative Leadership Institute.

Not soon enough.
George Allen 2008!!!
What kind of legislator is Mr Davis?
So what about Davis? Is he a conservative, or is he a RINO? If Mr. Elizabeth Taylor supports him, I’m skeptical already.

It occured to me that John Warner was doing exactly this.
Conservatives were hoping for someone more conservative than Warner, and Tom Davis doesn’t represent a major change.
If John Warner retires, then Mark Warner is guaranteed to pick up the Senate seat.
George Allen already announced that he wouldn’t run.
He should have retired this morning, before the cloture vote.
If there is any good in this, it is that these traitorous scoundrels will be forever remembered for this vote, this vote alone, and everything else will pale in comparison.
Now leave the Capitol in disgrace, “Senator”
Way overdue for this RINO jackass...
Yeah, sadly, you’re probably right. I still can’t figure why Mark Warner is so loved in Virginia.

Not sorry to see him go but really irritated he stayed around for so long! He should have retired in 2002 or before that!
Davis is a RINO. But he may be the best shot at holding onto that seat.
Davis is a little better than Warner, but still a RINO.
I agree. I also believe that, despite his having taken the war to the islamofascists, the same will be said of this president because of his support of this amnesty. I know for me personally, I have never been more disappointed in a politician in all my life.
What a loser.
“Davis is a RINO. But he may be the best shot at holding onto that seat.”
Unfortunately, that is the truth. Davis is probably the only Republican who can win in northern Virginia.
Thanks for the info! Anyone is better than Warner IMO. If Davis can win, we need to get behind him because that seat is too important to let a Dem take it.
Another warner boot licker!
The demorats will run the former governor warner, and there will be two deomrats from viginia.
I disagree. We need a conservative to challenge Mr Davis in the primary and give the people of Virginia a real choice.
Indeed, the threat we face is perhaps more ethereal, more insidious than any we have encountered. I say that with the full knowledge of the awesome challenge presented to and defeated by our fathers and grandfathers in the World Wars. There we had a known target, now we have one far more elusive, and coached by their own doctrine to lie (without getting into a religious sidetrack).
George may have had the right idea taking the fight to them, but he has been hopelessly outclassed in the long-term ‘strategery’ of dealing with this new foe. Muddying the waters with this atrocious amnesty debacle, while failing to control borders during a time of threat sadly confirms this ineptitude.
I voted for him, I campaigned for him, but now it is time for him to get some help from people that know WTH they are doing, and put his pet projects aside. You see there is a country at stake here... ours.
