Pajamas Media has learned that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid may be using an “unprecedented combination of legislative procedures” to push through the controversial Kennedy Immigration Bill - today! In fact, it may already be in progress by the time you read this.

...Rocketing through Republican Washington is a memo predicting Sen. Harry Reid will use a unprecedented combination of legislative procedures to shove through the immigration bill today—without real opposition...

...[former Secretary for the Majority and Minority in the U.S. Senate, Elizabeth B. Letchworth] calls it “The Reid scenario," which she says will kick off in less than two hours from this writing. Letchwork writes in an email: “The Reid scenario of offering amendments in strategic places in order to block any and all other amendments will commence when they return from their weekly party caucuses @ 2:15PM. [Today, Eastern] At the end of the amendment. offering process Sen. Reid will file cloture on the bill."

Can anyone else figure this out? Because, the memo itself (at the bottom of the page) refers to Thursday, yet the article refers to today. I'm not too sure about this report, so if anyone else can look into whether this is a concern please do so.

If they are going to have a second cloture vote this week, Thursday or Friday, he has to file it either today or tomorrow so it will have time to ‘ripen.’

It appears to be an existing article that a note of preface was hastily added and then posted. I think the note means Dirty Harry is pulling a fast one TODAY.

Who knows? We expect them to follow the rules, but with the fix in from both sides, how can we tell what they will do? These rules are basically agreed parliamentary procedures of the Senate, but if they decide to change them in midstream, who will object, as long as they have a majority in favor and both parties are on board?

I hope that’s wrong, but I don’t feel much confidence in the virtue, honor, honesty, patriotism, morality, or fairness of most senators.

Falling Back to the Next Trench [Mark Krikorian]

The second, and final, cloture vote is coming Thursday (that will be to end debate and proceed to a final vote on the bill itself), and only five votes need to shift from Yes to No to stop it. That seems like a good bet, with good candidates for switching including Brownback, Bond, Ben Nelson, Ensign, Burr, and Gregg. If they thought they'd gotten a lot of calls and faxes before, ...

Today on RUsh Limbaugh, Rush mentioned there was going to be a cloture vote on Thursday, and he basically said- “I didn’t know they were going to have one on Thursday, I found it on a website and just learned of it.”

So my point is, if Rush doesn’t know the voting schedule, and it’s his job to keep up on those things, he and his staff— then how are -we- supposed to keep up with this nonsense

The senate rules expert, Senator Byrd. And before you start bashing him, look how he voted and tell me where you disagree with his stance at:

His stubbornness and knowledge of senate rules may be what saves us.

They could FILIBUSTER any shenanigans, force a vote on the filibuster of them ramming it through contrary to the rules . . .

Am I right?

I believe the filibuster is only possible if there is no cloture. Sixty votes can end a filibuster and limit the amount of talk allowed.
