Posse Comitatus is a big problem in getting this idea approved, and some insiders would argue that U.S. Spec Ops already routinely operate inside the U.S., with them being most prominently deployed as “advisors” during the Waco Siege in 1993.

LOL! I *DO* realize that, but (1) they’re not the British, and (2) I’m all for a strong program of domestic anti-terrorism. Plus, maybe they’d like to help with the cooking and do a little gardening.

Perhaps, when NorthComm realizes that they took a oath to protect and defend the Constitution and realize that we are being invaded will I begin to listen to them.
Also, when the Executive branch believes we are at War and gives sentry powers to our Border Patrol that enable them to shoot first and ask questions later.

Would you feel the same if they were blue helmets? (U.N.)

Would you feel the same if they were blue helmets? (U.N.)NO. BTW, I meant the "they can stay at my house" comment to be humorous, not as advocacy for a military overthrow of the government. Good grief.

Posse comitatus is an outdated law that should have been repealed thirty years ago.
Think about it - posse comitatus virtually ensures that our military can only be used outside of the United States. Who defends OUR borders?
Redeploy our military to our borders - NOW.

I would have to agree that it is not adding up. Special forces are already stationed at the multiplicity of bases across the United States and are ready for duty. Besides which, terrorism on the scale they are referring to is well in the hands of domestic agencies such as the FBI and the CIA. They have their counter terror teams and SWAT teams. I’m not sure I understand why NorthComm wants to do this power grab, especially in light of your comment about not securing the borders first. The whole thing just tastes bad.

And, if Hillery comes to be in charge, do you still want them? She would make Bill and Janet look like saints. You need your head examined and your soul searched.

Northcom is not just responsible for the continental US (including Alaska), but also Mexico, Canada, several islands and the sea approaches to the US. When you look at those other parts of their area of responsibility, it makes a little more sense.
To: Terabitten
I disagree that Posse Comitatus needs to be repealed, since it acts as a strong legal bulwark against any potential military adventurers from getting any ideas about overthrowing the U.S. government, a la
Seven Days in May. However, it does need to be amended and updated to reflect the challenges of managing our 21st century borders and the terrorism threat instead of policing the South during Reconstruction.

“Redeploy our military to our borders - NOW.”
I’ve always thought it would be a good idea to deploy the military about 10 miles from the border...on the Mexican side, that is.

This is a bad idea. Given that, I'm quite sure it will soon be official policy. Gotta be able to make sure the peasants don't get too uppity.
