FALLS CHURCH, Va.--Starting July 1, residents and drivers in Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads will be taxed by regional governments in which they have little say or influence. It's all part of a tax hike the Republican-controlled Legislature enacted earlier this year. And it's a sharp break from what the state has allowed in the past.

Is the GOP killing itself everywhere except Louisiana? It’s beginning to look that way, but the LA governor’s race seems solidly Republican at this point.

That's the backdrop to primary elections that took place earlier this month, when conservatives ousted two incumbent liberal Republican senators and came within 300 votes of unseating the powerful Senate Majority Leader Walter Stosch.

PING. Before VA turns into the sinkhole you left in Deleware.

Get of the Virginia Senate RINOs. To say the Virginia Legislature is GOP-controlled is an understatement. The state has tax and spend liberals and they're not all Democrats.

Well, its good to see Stephen Moore writing about taxes instead of pushing for even more liberal immigration laws.

When Republicans look like Democrats, voters opt for the genuine article.

When Republicans look like genuine conservatives, they win.

I long for Republicans who not only look like genuine conservatives, but are genuine conservatives and can articulate conservative positions with clarity.

Where are they? Is Fred Thompson one?

No but Duncan Hunter is. Romney is more than Fred. Fred does beat them on divorces though. I guess America is proud of that.

I know: both IN senators are big amnesty backers. It’s party of the Midwestern “white guilt” complex over having allowed a century of segregation in the South.

The only hope I can see for IN, Theodore R., is that we have some of the “young crowd” following in the footsteps of some of the greats of the state Like Rep. Mike Pence and Dan Burton.

In the leg there are a few, unfortunately their courage has been stuck in their throats as of late..it’s almost as bad (or worse) as under R. W. Garton!!!

I believe that Mike Pence is, like Sam Brownback, for “open borders”, isn’t he? We don’t hear much about him any more.

He did have a bill that at one time could be construed “Amnesty” THOUGh it went much farther than the current Amenesty bill in the Senate (it included the language of the House Bill last year). He has since come out againt the current Amnesty Bill, and I believe backed away from his last idea.

I was in Richmond a few months ago. What a great place!

I’ll say something controversial here at the end of a dead thread that only you or I will read. Maybe the wrong side won the Civil War.

Not because slavery was OK. Slavery needed to be abolished of course. But the dimwitted, expedient historians don’t understand that the Civil War was not just about slavery, but about State’s rights.

I’m speaking as a first generation LEGAL immigrant to America. Frankly, if I walked into a roadhouse country bar in the middle of dixie the f’ing record/CD would grind to a halt while everyone stared at me.

Get of the Virginia Senate RINOs.

FWIW, three of the Senate RINOs retired (Chichester, Potts, Hawkins).

Two more were defeated in the primary (Williams, Bell).

There's still hope. Although it's an uphill battle.

The House is still, for the most part, pretty solidly conservative.

But the rats have a big "21/51" campaign going to take back control.
