A visit by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has caused a whirlwind of rumor in the artsy town of Ojai (pronounced OH'-hye) and speculation that that Terminator may be back for good.
The governor, his wife Maria Shriver and several of their children were spotted riding bicycles in the tiny Ventura County town over the Memorial Day weekend, Mayor Pro Tem Joe De Vito told the Ventura County Star.
"I'd heard he put an offer on a house, but I can't verify that," De Vito said.
Real estate broker Dennis Guernsey told the Los Angeles Times that he recently showed a property to the governor and his wife.
"Yes, he is looking for property up here. Has he bought anything? No," Guernsey said. "That's all I'm going to say."
The Sacramento Bee recently reported that the family had made an offer on an Ojai home listed for about $6 million.
The town of 8,000 sits amid hills filled with vineyards and orchards about 90 miles north of Los Angeles. It has a liberal reputation and is full of art galleries, spas, horse ranches and the occasional roadhouse. Homes can be ultra-expensive.
Schwarzenegger and his family have their main home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles and they also have a vacation home in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Aaron McLear, a spokesman for the governor, said he could not confirm Saturday whether Schwarzenegger was seriously house-hunting in the area.
"He's been up there several times. He and Maria love Ojai," McLear told The Associated Press. "When they travel they often look at homes. It's kind of a hobby. I don't know if he has any intention of buying a home there.'
With a net worth of some 400 million, I guess he could spend 5 million for a ranch in Ojai : )
Meow...how catty of you :)
i can’t stand gov schwarzepuker.
Ojai is a VERY nice “little” town. It’s not cheap anymore. I had friends buy cheap land and build there in the late 70’s. Now their house is worth over 1 Mil. easy.
Lots of movie and Hollywood people there now. Too bad.
It’s very hot there in the summertime. It’s inland and not much air moving (except for the Hollywood “liberals” bloviating lots ot hot air.
I don’t much care what Schwartzenkennedy does. But the Tyrolian Alps is beautiful, and the beer is unsurpassed.
Right up until he got into politics, AAArnold was a hero of mine...
And far far away from the illegal alien chaos that our politicians generate
Occasional roadhouse? Like in that Patrick Swayze movie? That sounds positively déclassé!
Nice little town if you dont mind that creepy dark spiritual oppression feeling you get from it like sedona or places in topanga canyon.....
You’re exactly right, not to mention the smug, arrogant condescension also prevelent in many “artsy” and academic or college towns.
