Romney: Attacks On Mormon Religion Troubling
CBS 4 MIAMI ^ | 23 JUNE 2007 | AP

Posted on 06/23/2007 1:28:02 PM PDT by Extremely Extreme Extremist

(AP) SALT LAKE CITY -- Mitt Romney said Saturday that criticism of his Mormon religion by rival GOP presidential campaigns is happening too frequently.

“Clearly, any derogatory comments about anyone’s faith—those comments are troubling. The fact they keep on coming up is even more troubling,” Romney said during a fundraising trip in the home state of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Mormon church is one of the fastest-growing religions and claims about 12.5 million members worldwide. But many evangelical Christians in crucial primary states such as Iowa and South Carolina consider the faith a cult.

Romney’s remarks follow an apology from GOP rival John McCain’s campaign for comments about the Mormon church allegedly made this year by a volunteer.

Also recently, Republican presidential hopeful, Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, issued a similar apology for a campaign worker’s e-mail to Iowa Republican leaders that was an apparent attempt to draw unfavorable scrutiny of Romney’s religion. Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani apologized after the New York Sun noted that a campaign aide had forwarded to a blogger a story about unofficial Mormon lore. Legend has it that a Mormon would save the Constitution, the story said. The campaign aide passed the story along with a note: “Thought you’d find this interesting.”

Romney said in a large presidential race there always will be some volunteers or workers who cannot be controlled. But he said the difference between derogatory comments that originated from the McCain campaign and others is that the Arizona senator has not personally apologized to him.

“In the case of Senator Brownback and Mayor Giuliani ... they called immediately. They each spoke with me personally. I don’t have any issue with that at all,” Romney said.

He said McCain “can do whatever he feels is the right thing. There’s no need for me to suggest how people respond to things that go on in the campaign.”

Tucker Bounds, a McCain campaign spokesman, said the McCain campaign has already apologized.

“It’s a very sincere apology. There is absolutely no place for those type of comments in our campaign,” he said.

Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts, said he had not spoken with McCain since the last presidential debate, on June 5.

Romney used a fundraiser hosted by Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller to criticize the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law. It banned unregulated, unlimited contributions from corporations, unions and wealthy individuals to national political parties and federal candidates.

“The bill ought to be repealed,” he said. “It’s been the wrong course for American campaigns.”

Romney said he favors unlimited donations as long as they are immediately disclosed on the Internet.

Romney was attending fundraisers in Salt Lake City and in Logan on Saturday.

You’re right, my post was personal, and I was responding to a personal attack. The Mod is free to remove my post if he/she deems it inappropriate. And I apologize for the personal tone of my response.

I like your idea of wanting to win in ‘08. The problem with Hillary is that she is a master manipulator and whoever we pick will have the same problem, one way or another, and I think we all know that. I think Hillary will be the United State’s version of Hitler. I think she will be tough to beat no matter what. It’s sad to think that the United States has to deal with this type of attack from within but that’s what has happened since our educational institutions have been compromised from extremist leftists.

Take a look at the thread. See if you can identify the one who insults everyone on the other side.

Regrettably, I’ve learned from experience with one of the posters that it doesn’t matter how aware you make him of the error of his position, that he will simply refuse to acknowledge his erroreous position.

For example, the claim that the thief was in “heaven” the very day Christ died as proof that profession of belief is all that is required. My earlier post (#1222) clearly shows that between his death and resurrection Christ had not yet ascended to heaven to be with the Father. I am just waiting for the mental gymnastics to explain that away. I know they won’t be able to stick the dismount, but it will be enjoyable to watch.

Yes, I agree that being pro-abortion makes Rudy an unacceptable candidate, as well as a bad Catholic!

I don’t believe the Mormon faith, but it doesn’t bother me that Mr. Romney does.

I’m sure DanielLongo took no offense. I have been reminded by the moderator on occasion not to make it personal. Let us all try to . . .

The "Gospel" is not the Bible and the Bible is not the Gospel. The Bible is a compilation of books and epistles written to illustrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ, some taken from ancinet times and some dealing directly with the ministry of Jesus on earth. It does not contain every word Jesus ever spoke. While the Bible is the word of God, it does not contain all the word of God.

The truth be known, prior to 1980 you almost never heard that Jesus was God. I think this is a new doctrine that has taken off. I believe he is God’s only begotton son. I think that the obession that some have for saying that Jesus is God acutally takes away from Jesus and actually delutes the real meaning of what he did and why he came to earth and also delutes the love that the Father had for his son and that the son had for his father. By insisiting that Jesus is God, I believe meaning is actually taken away from what really happened.

Still trying apply that 34 AD angel to the LDS in 1800’s AD

As I said before many do not read carefully that conversation was happening while Paul was receiving a revelation from the Lord Jesus Christ, it was a current even in 34 AD it has nothing to do with 1800’s AD.

If we listen to the mainstream we still be waiting for Rev. 14:6 to be fullfilled

6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

"thief was in “heaven” the very day Christ"

Why do you put Heaven in quotes, CUH? Do you think it is a fantasy?

"very day"

This really is a good question. Find the answer to Genesis 2:17 and I think you'll have both.

... for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

I think the answer is probably 2 Peter 3:8.

No the Bible doesn’t contain all the word of God, only the portion that God wanted preserved. And it was preserved in just the way he wanted. He sent us the Holy Spirit to lead us to all truth.

Gospel means Good News. The Bible is perfectly adequate in giving us all the good news that we need.

1 We are set free from the penalty of sin which is death through the atonement of Christ. </ end gospel>

THAT is Good News. Finding out there are additional works we must perform is not Good News. Finding out that the author of these additional works is a fraud, is definitely NOT good news.

I just popped in to say Hi, and I’m behind a few hundred posts, but unfortunately, that will have to wait for a couple more days, as I'm super busy right now. I just wanted to add my 2 cents here real quick on this subject. I hope I’m not being a buttinski.

2 Chr. 20: 34 book of Jehu.
2 Chr. 33: 19 written among the sayings of the seers.
Matt. 2: 23 spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
1 Cor. 5: 9 I wrote unto you in an epistle.
Eph. 3: 3 as I wrote afore in few words.
Col. 4: 16 read the epistle from Laodicea.
Jude 1: 3 when I gave all diligence to write unto you.

What you seem to be incapable of understanding the LDS are not earning anything, they are allowing the Lord to edify them by being summisive unto the Lord.

Mosiah 3: 19
19 For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.

Alma 7: 23
23 And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive.

Alma 13: 28
28 But that ye would humble yourselves before the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch and pray continually, that ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear, and thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all long-suffering;

No the Bible doesn’t contain all the word of God, only the portion that God wanted preserved.

And we hold that God does indeed preserve his word that he wants preserved. The plates of Nephi teach us that indeed. Cheers, not I'm really off.

"If we listen to the mainstream we still be waiting for Rev. 14:6 to be fullfilled"

I'm pretty sure Revelation 16 hasn't happened yet.

"... No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake. The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed."
