Gardasil has booth in WalMart
Self | June 23, 2007 | DJMacWoW

Posted on 06/23/2007 11:27:29 AM PDT by DJ MacWoW

Hubby went to WalMart in Pennsylvania today. At the main entrance is a Gardasil booth handing out pamphlets. There was a line of parents so Hubby started a rant. He asked the woman why not just teach your daughters to keep their knickers on? Her answer was because they won't. Hubby responded that our daughter is in her 20's and still a virgin. She responded that daughters lie. He offered to let our "female tiger" talk to her.

At that point the woman asked if he was on his cellphone. He said "Yes" And how about this not being tested on 9 to 11 yr olds, your target group" She responded that it's been tested on 12 year olds. He said "You have no idea what the longterm affects of this drug are on reproduction"

At that point she didn't want to spar anymore and said "It's safe". But by then Hubby had already planted doubts and the parents in line had heard it all. I LOVE Hubby.

Anyone else need to visit a WalMart today?

Sorry but I read their flawed study. I read a great deal of info. Some of it from Merck. They lie.

Oh and instead of a personal attack, where’s your info? Hmmmm?

Don’t waste your time arguing with the statists on here, it will only raise your blood pressure.

You thought he was talking about “your target group” to a customer?

Maybe you should read more thoroughly.

Cool.

your “homework” suggests “...don’t be rude and intrusive to strangers at Wal-Mart...” Why is it rude and intrusive for DJ MacWoW but not you?

If you weren’t the simpleton you display yourself to be you would recognize that, in very liberal-projection style, you do the very thing you criticize others of doing.

So whose “offense” is the greater; the one who relates acting in an activist fashion to present a counter argument to a display he thought potentially damaging to kids, or some dumbass who stands on the sideline and flings poo?

Nevermind, I was right the first time - it is beyond you...

There's no mention in your posting of a MERCK rep

Who sells Gardasil?

From my post:At the main entrance is a Gardasil booth handing out pamphlets.

You did not mention that a MERCK rep was stating that everyone's daughter is a sexually active liar.

Dang buddy! From my post: He asked the woman why not just teach your daughters to keep their knickers on? Her answer was because they won't. Hubby responded that our daughter is in her 20's and still a virgin. She responded that daughters lie.

IMHO, you were still rude and intrusive and misleading in your reporting of the episode.

Who but Merck would setup a Gardasil booth? No one else misunderstood. I'm sorry that you did.

a counter argument to a display he thought potentially damaging

Actually there was a live person there, a rep, pushing the hype.

Any idea what the percentages for deaths was, or the percentages for severe reactions?

&&&&&

No idea, but my reading of the information is that these reactions are occuring among girls who are being given the vaccine after the conclusion of the study.

I didn’t know that. Interesting. Contraceptives have never been a solve everything type of thing, but they certainly cut down on the risk. Arguing against them in this era is madness.

Here's the statement that caused my confusion:

He asked the woman why not just teach your daughters to keep their knickers on?

When the phrase, "...the woman...," is used without qualifiers, I presumed she was merely another customer. I would have written: "He asked the MERCK rep..." etc. I read it twice, but didn't ponder over every phrase (except the one I mentioned.)

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I will hereafter read your posts more carefully, looking for signs of the old reporter's axiom: Who, When, Where and What.

Oops! I meant to say boys can still get cancer from HPV, though not as frequently as girls. And yes, it’s true that condoms aren’t very effective in preventings its spread.

One of the reasons is that the virus can manifest itself throughout the inguinal region and be transferred likewise. So you’re dealing with an area that isn’t covered by a condom.

I’ve seen studies that show up to 25% of college-aged females have HPV, as sad as that is.

And I’m sorry that I wasn’t clearer. I was on the phone with Hubby and trying to listen and type at the same time. At least my spelling was swell. ;)

It is your position that only a doctor can have an opinion about a drug???

In general, a doctor learns more in one day of medical school about health and disease than a layperson learns in an entire lifetime. Lay people don't even have the necessary vocabulary to discuss the issue properly. Feel free to have an opinion, but respect the fact that the opinion isn't necessarily an informed one.

It would be like me sitting here arguing with physicists about relativity.

Gardasil won’t prevent all forms of genital warts or cervical cancers

it is important that it be given before people become sexually active

* Gardasil is not a ‘STD vaccine’ in the sense that it prevents all STDs. It simply provides protection against certain types of HPV, but not other STDs, such as HIV or herpes.

* Cervarix is another HPV vaccine that is being developed by GlaxoSmithKline.

According to the Merck product manufacturer insert, there was 1 case of juvenile arthritis, 2 cases of rheumatoid arthritis, 5 cases of arthritis, and 1 case of reactive arthritis out of 11,813 Gardasil recipients plus 1 case of lupus and 2 cases of arthritis out of 9,701 participants primarily receiving an aluminum containing placebo. Clinical trial investigators dismissed most of the 102 Gardasil and placebo associated serious adverse events, including 17 deaths, that occurred in the clinical trials as unrelated.

It is unknown how long the immunity provided by Gardasil actually lasts.

“Public health officials want to vaccinate girls early, before they become sexually active, even though it is not known how long the immunity will last.” [9]

“Tests show that the vaccine lasts at least four years. Long-term results aren’t known yet.”

The studies done on Gardasil were not set up to investigate whether the vaccine itself has the potential to cause cancer.

“GARDASIL has not been evaluated for the potential to cause carcinogenicity or genotoxicity.”

Why would it have effects on reproduction? It’s just as likely to make her hair fall out, or change her voice’s pitch.

“Just as likely” meaning “not likely at all”. The only anticipated reactions are local pain and swelling and perhaps mild transient immune reactions (low-grade fever, feeling lousy), with more serious allergic reactions remaining a possibility as with all vaccines.

Children give informed assent, their parents give informed consent. This is done daily in all manner of scientific studies.

Not only that but I remember from a thread a few months ago that had a link from MERCK that said most womens bodies kill the virus on it’s own. They’ve created frightening hype in order to sell a dubious vaccine that won’t even protect against all the viruses. For money.

  1. These viruses are eventually cleared from the body as active infections, but they are retroviruses and insert themselves into your cells' DNA. This genetic damage is what is responsible for the later development of cervical cancer. Someone who has been vaccinated will mount an immediate immune response to the virus to eliminate it before many cells are infected. This will prevent the genetic damage that leads to cancer.
  2. It protects against the major types of HPV that cause cervical cancer. It really doesn't need to protect against them all.

No one has any idea of the longterm affect. Drug companies have pushed too many drugs that were "miracles" only to later recall them. They were "safe" too.

And there is a LOT of money to be made.

Glaxo fires shot over Merck's bow

one of the company's most impressive potential blockbusters, with analyst estimates for annual sales ranging up to $4 billion.

Amusa projects that Gardasil sales will lead Cervarix by $1 billion annually, primarily because Merck beat Glaxo to the market.

It's all about money.
