Mexican authorities uncover border tunnel into San Diego County

By: North County Times wire services -

SAN DIEGO - Mexican authorities have discovered an unfinished cross-border tunnel that extends 31 feet into San Diego County, federal officials announced today.

The passageway, discovered yesterday morning, originates in Baja California and is located south of the intersection of Via de la Amistad and Enrico Fermi Drive and about a half-mile east of the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

So far, U.S. Border Patrol agents have not discovered access to the tunnel on the U.S. side, but an investigation is continuing, authorities said.

One of many, many underground smuggling tunnels.

God only knows how many other tunnels are out there...

The Israelis know how to deal with these. Let’s contract some of them, or at least take their example. Shut it down.

Er.....a little reality for the fence proponents out there.

You will not stop illegals with a fence who are trying to feed families, you will not stop liberals from shipping in voters with a fence, you will not stop the coyotes earning big bucks carting them over the border.

Don’t know the answer - but don’t think we can build a big enough fence.

The fence is only one part.

The critical part is actually enforcing the laws against employing these criminals.

Once a few 'business men' get hit with RICO suits, illegal labor will lose its luster.

land mines will stop the tunnels!!!

if employers had to pay fines of $10,000 per illegal....the fines would be as effective as the land mines!!!!

“You will not stop illegals with a fence who are trying to feed families, you will not stop liberals from shipping in voters with a fence, you will not stop the coyotes earning big bucks carting them over the border.”

Be practical. Any tunnel that had significant use would be caught. They take a lot of effort to build. Drug smuggling would continue but the flow of people would slow!

Pure bullhockey. Why don't we just leave the border wide open then?

A fence is a huge component of border security.

We have to find methods that work.

Nothing will work - surveillance, drones, fences whatever as long as the government itself wants them over here. It only works if the government upholds its laws and stops the influx.

And, we see that the dems DO WANT them here so they will undercut whatever we do.

So, what do you do. The magical fence would just be a pretty fence if the government does not make the border guards control the border. And, we have seen that if they enforce, the government will send them to jail.

Have a relative that wanted to be a border guard and worked on getting in for a year. He finally was shown where he would be stationed and the facilities. He was about the only white, most were Mexican and the facilities were dumps.

He quickly changed his mind and came back and accepted a job he had formerly turned down.

Landmines? Right. So the guards can be blown up as they cart in the water for the thirsty illegals.

This will only be solved when Mexico starts cooperating, and it sounds to me like it has. For one thing, Calderon has suddenly realized that he is losing his country’s most valuable resource - population - to the US to make up for the 40,000,000 people we have aborted over the last 40 years.

The bad news is that Mexico is catching up to the US on its abortion rate and low child-birth rate, and this means that Mexico too will be without workers soon. Calderon is trying to get them back, because he actually (unlike Fox) has a vision for Mexico’s future, and I think he is already shown in the last few months how much more cooperative he is.

Of course, when all the Mexicans go back to Mexico and we non-reproducing Americans are left with our aging selves, we may regret this. But that’s our problem and not Mexico’s.
