What makes lower tier lower tier? It’s that we the voters are not supporting them. My point is only that many who do not support them WOULD LIKE TO but they have been convinced of their “can’t win” status. So it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. You don’t support a candidate who can’t win — and a candidate can’t win if you don’t support him.

Apparently no one really is giving any money to Hunter. That’s certainly a barometer. I see your point though. I’m just very impressed with Thompson.

We can vote for whoever we want in a primary. Most of us prefer to vote for someone who has a chance of winning in the General Election against a tough Democrat opponent and almost the entire MSM.
If Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo or Ron Paul can't even convince the party faithful to support them, how are they ever supposed to win a General Election?

Amazing that this type of mindset is with the GOP. No wonder the party is in such dire shape!

"..have been convinced of their cant win status.."NAH-O-WAAAY!! Nobody here has been trying to convince the rest of us that some "second- or even third-tier" candidate "can't win" in order to promote his-or-her-own candidate. That can't happen here on Free Republic!
