But with no limbs, eyes, ears or tongue, it would be a bleak existence.

No, the ears they keep so they can hear every scream of a child frightened at their ghastly appearance.

“Snitching” is what civilized people must do in lieu of taking the Law into their own hands.

People who discourage “snitching” are undermining Law and Order by enabling criminal behavior, as you say, and disenfranchising the victims of crime.

When the body part is the face (usually the forehead) and the disfigurement is intended to be permanent (and "permanent" markers don't count) then the assault is for real.

Unless, of course, the disfigurement is written backwards.

BTW, I've also read on FR of several fake hate attacks in which some POS tries to get attention by pretending (white, heterosexual, male) people wrote "slurs" on his/her body. If a magic marker is used and the body part is the stomach or arm, it's almost certainly a fake assault. When the body part is the face (usually the forehead) and the disfigurement is intended to be permanent (and "permanent" markers don't count) then the assault is for real. The real assaults fortunately are vastly outnumbered by the publicity seeking freaks out to "raise awareness'.

A few years ago the local TV news show and newspapers had leading stories about a black family in my neighborhood whose house was broken into and vandalized with swastikas and "N-----r's go home" and the like. It was a horrible story. Everyone in my neighborhood was stunned. Black people I work with told me, "See - you white people are all still racists."

Of course, a couple of weeks later, the man admitted he did it all himself. He said he did it to "prove racism was still alive". Of course THAT story was buried on page 40 of the paper and not mentioned on the TV news at all.

When I pointed this out to my black coworkers, their only comment was, "So what - whites are still racists."

There is no arguing with those whose minds are made up no matter what.

Piers Anthony has an old story called On the Uses of Torture. Read that, and we can both wish for these people to end up in the main character's state at the end, which is far more gone than what you described.

Thanks for the added info. I think that it's unfortunate that my first reaction was that this was a nosy neighbor and that while she didn't deserve disfigurement, she should have minded her own business.

I also think it's concerning that the VERY PERTINENT history was left out of the posted story by the reporter. Wonder if there's an agenda there. For instance, any mention of drugs, etc etc put an entirely new spin on the story, IMHO.

One of the bad guys has a Latino last name. Can't associate protected groups with drugs and squalor, makes them look bad.

My uninvited 2c....

The whole "Stop Snitching" thing is nothing new. It was more or less the code among the kids when I was growing up twen(mumble) years ago. And, I'm sure it was the same way twenty years before that. The only thing that I see different is that I grew out of it, and many "adults" today seem to be stuck at age 15.

IMHO, there's a huge difference between doing what's right, and being a snitch. For instance, in this case, there's no doubt in my mind that the person who called CPS did the right thing.

But, I suspect that anyone on this thread has broken (intentionally or completely unintentionally) any number of laws just in the course of being alive today. Did you do 26 in a 25mph zone while driving? Maybe not pause quite long enough at the stop sign by your house? I personally violated a few language-related FCC regulations on my cell-phone earlier today. Could someone turn me in? I guess so, but I think that the police and the court system have larger fish to fry than someone who said a naughty word on a phone call.

It's a fine line to walk between the nihilistic jungle that you mention, and a repressive state where everyone needs to constantly look over their shoulder, IMHO.

Sadly, you are right. Life has changed for the worst and it seems to be getting worst day by day. We must turn away from such things and back to Christian Values.
The Bible is our only hope, Jesus our only path.

Sir,

You don’t know me. But I assure you, my faith is well grounded. I encourage you to research some of my posts about my faith and beliefs. I will let you do the leg work, since you have taken the liberty of passing judgment based on this post.

Jesus did suggest that anyone that leads a child to sin shall have a millstone cast around his neck and thrown into the deepest sea. Look it up. He also did a some property damage and roughed up some proprietors at a temple once.

Be slower to judge in the future.

[I agree with the other poster...these people just confirmed the wisdom of removing the children from that household.]

As I read the post, the people that branded the lady were the ones that abused the child. She reported them.

Am I wrong?

“Man, I just don’t know about this one. I had a neighbor lose her two kids just because she spanked them and another neighbor who had never had children and didn’t believe in spanking reported her for child abuse. A lot of those CPS people are zealots and she lost her kids, and she was NOT an abusive parent. I wouldnt’ have blamed her if she had done something like this to her neighbor. So until I know more facts, I’m withholding judgement.”

I’m sorry, but I think these folks have already shown what kind of people they are. I wonder if any of them tortured animals when they were young. I’d be worried for any children in their care.

> Be slower to judge in the future.

The Scriptures exhort us to “Judge righteous judgment” — in your case, I didn’t have to judge you at all: by your own words you were condemned.

If you are unhappy with that, be even slower to post idiotic posts that compromise your Faith in the future.

Couple more things:

> Jesus did suggest that anyone that leads a child to sin shall have a millstone cast around his neck and thrown into the deepest sea. Look it up.

Better still, you look it up. He didn’t suggest that this *shall* happen at all. He *did* suggest that it would be better for that person if this punishment was meted out to him, instead of the fate that ultimately awaited him.

But it was not up to us, His servants, to mete out this punishment. This passage provides no license to followers of Christ to indulge vengeance fantasies like the one you outlined. “Vengeance is mine...”

> ...and roughed up some proprietors at a temple once.

Maybe it’s once again over to you to “look it up”:

Neither St Matthew nor St John record Jesus “roughing up” any proprietors at the Temple, or using force to eject them (or indeed using force against a fellow human being even once in his 33 years of life). He used a plait of cords to drive out the animals, and strong words to eject the moneychangers, from His Father’s house. If in doubt as to what happened, re-read St John. St Matthew merely says that he cast them out: no suggestion of force being used.

> He also did a some property damage...

Property damage? In what way can it be “property damage” to disrupt the activities of people involved in a home invasion: for the Temple was His Father’s own house, and these money-changers had no legitimate business being there. Or do you disagree? You come home one day to find out some thugs have set up a casino in your basement, and it’s “property damage” for you to overturn the roulette wheel, and it’s “roughing them up” to ask them to leave??

Go on! Surely you don’t believe that!

I’m not here to Judge you, my FRiend. But if you are going to misquote Holy Writ to justify the unjustifiable, then please expect to be hauled up on it.

You never read of Christ or any of his apostles saying things like this.

Well that is certainly true. Although Peter did at one time cut the ear off of a Roman Soldier.

Of course Jesus promptly reattached it.

If only he was around to fix Tyson's opponent ( I forgot his name) and ol' Vince, the painter.
