PHOENIX -- Four people have been arrested in connection with kidnapping, assaulting and using a branding iron to burn the word "snitch" on a Mesa woman's face, police said.
Investigators said they believe the crime was done in retaliation for reporting one of the men and woman to Child Protective Services in February 2006, which ultimately led to CPS taking away their children.
"If CPS removes a child from the house, there must be some very serious allegations," said Sgt. Chuck Trapani of the Mesa Police Department. "So the children removed, they're in CPS custody, and now they're blaming this person for what they did wrong. "
Police said they arrested James H. Standridge, 34, Jackie L. Getz, 26, and Kibbol A. Avila, 33, on suspicion of kidnapping, aggravated assault and unlawful imprisonment.
Preston L. Valdez, 21, was charged with one count each of aggravated assault and unlawful imprisonment with a no-bond status.
All of the suspects live in the Mesa area.
Police said the victim, a 38-year-old woman, called the Mesa Police Department on June 13 to report the crime.
Officers said an intensive five-day investigation determined that the group worked together to ensure that the woman would be at a certain apartment in Mesa.
When the woman entered the apartment, the group assaulted and held her against her will, detectives said.
The suspects shaved off a portion of the victim's hair and, using a branding iron, burned the word "snitch" on her face, then blindfolded her, officers said.
Her body was also burned with a propane torch, investigators said.
The woman was then placed in a vehicle and driven to a neighborhood where she was released, detectives said.
A witness noticed the woman stumbling down the street and called police, according to investigators.
A second witness stopped the victim and waited with her near the road until police and paramedics arrived. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and later released.
Investigators executed a search warrant at the apartment where the crime took place and found evidence of the crime. They were able to track down and arrest all four suspects.
Bond for Standridge and Getz was set at $270,000. Avila's bond was set at $80,000.
Sometimes an eye for an eye is the only answer.

Usually I try to keep an open mind about CPS cases, knowing that there is often another side to the story.
However, it is clear that the other side of this story cannot be good. These idiots have just proved the state's case, in my opinion.
Only my faith keeps me from seriously wanting to do dastardly and unmentionable things to these four folks. If I weren’t Christian, I might think about making sure that a 30 day torturous ordeal left them alive and able to breath and live for many years. But with no limbs, eyes, ears or tongue, it would be a bleak existence.

they might be seen as heroes in prison, but in the Eyes of God they have pricked the eye of one of his flock. there will be serious consequences for that.

“Snitching” presumably meaning advising the police of crimes that have been committed.
Anybody wearing a tee-shirt like that should be prosecuted for “Obstruction of Justice” and just possibly “Intimidation” or “Uttering a Threat.”
There are many perfectly-good laws that can be used to prevent people from encouraging others to undermine an orderly, law-abiding society. They should be used. Instead, we prefer to call it “Free Speech” (which it isn’t).

Did they stop and think that kidnapping and burning words into a person’s face might reinforce the allegations of child abuse against them?
Since finding FR in Dec of 1999, I've read of three cases posted here where subhumans have put amateur tattoos on victim's faces. In all three cases, charitable doctors removed the tattoos for free. Hopefully if the woman is disfigured, a kindly doctor will help her get the skin grafts or other means of reducing the scarring to an absolute minimum, free or at very reduced cost (or take donations).
BTW, I've also read on FR of several fake hate attacks in which some POS tries to get attention by pretending (white, heterosexual, male) people wrote "slurs" on his/her body. If a magic marker is used and the body part is the stomach or arm, it's almost certainly a fake assault. When the body part is the face (usually the forehead) and the disfigurement is intended to be permanent (and "permanent" markers don't count) then the assault is for real. The real assaults fortunately are vastly outnumbered by the publicity seeking freaks out to "raise awareness'.
