Evangelical named LA gang 'tsar'

A US evangelical Christian minister has been appointed to lead a million-dollar program to tackle gang violence in Los Angeles, the city's mayor said.

Reverend Jeff Carr, a minister in the Church of the Nazarene, was named director of gang reduction and youth development programs for the city.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa promised to name an anti-gang "tsar" as part of a crackdown earlier this year.

There are an estimated 40,000 gang members in LA.

Mr Carr will co-ordinate an anti-gang strategy unveiled by Mr Villaraigosa in April, and lead an audit of the 23 gang-prevention programmes already operating in LA.

"We can't arrest our way out of this problem," Mr Carr said. "We have got to figure out how to provide opportunities to communities who have been bypassed for years."

Mr Carr worked for 17 years for a religious foundation that runs faith-based programmes for low-income youth.

Earlier this year, Mr Villaraigosa called for international efforts to deal with gang violence, saying his city was a breeding ground for Latino gangs around the world.

I’ve heard good things about this guy but for the last 20 years LA has had “tsars” and none have solved anything.

They got his name wrong. It’s now Tony Villar. Aka “Mr. Teeth”.

Those approx. 40,000 gang-bangers in L.A. are no better than Al-Qaida and should be treated as such. They do not care about anyone, innocents have been killed in drive-by shootings, and reportedly some have even acquired military-grade weaponry thanks to drug-dealings and meddling from that great bastion of human rights and freedom, China.

THEY ARE TERRORISTS!!

What those gang bangers need is some fresh air, sunshine and hard work. Say, out in the desert, removing rocks for 12 hours a day to a depth of 5’ over a several square mile area to prepare the land for agriculture.

They can live in tents and eat from a field kitchen. And that healthy exercise will burn up all that aggression and hostility, plus teach them a valuable skill. If they behave themselves, then can get much leisurely duty working in tree nurseries and outdoors in a large scale reforestry program.

"We can't arrest our way out of this problem," Mr Carr said.

When we build enough prisons to house the people who cannot live in society like human beings should............prisons that keep the criminals separated by the degree of severity of the crime(s), their attitude and their criminal history...........or, better yet separate prisons for 10-12 (or more) degrees of criminality...............then we will start seeing a real reduction in crime in America............

If they are good in prison and learn worthwhile skills and pay for their incarceration and pay back their victims what can be paid back..........then they can be promoted to a less harsh degree prison, BUT, if they won't work, continue criminal activity in prison, and don't pay for their incarceration and repay the victims, etc., then they are demoted to an even more harsh degree of prison with time added on to their sentence...........

If I understand the U.S. Constitution correctly (Ammendment XIII), we are not being harsh enough on violent and repeat offenders........in terms of type of confinement, perks, food choices, work, association with other inmates, etc., etc.

The Mayor is all touchy feely these days, since he found out he is going to be a new daddy again.

I’m suspicious of anyone nominated by Mr. Villar.

Yes, indeedy........there are ga-zillions of tons of recycled items that need to be sorted, millions of acres of forest that need dead wood removed, thousands of miles of border (Mexico and Canada) that need to be cleared for fences, millions of acres of Kudzu that need to be chopped and dug up, millions of miles of road ways that need to be cleaned up, thousand and thousands of city streets that need to be cleared of trash and refuse, thousands of run down buildings that need to be torn down, thousands of landfills that need maintenance, flood, tornado and hurricane areas that need to be cleaned up, and, the list could go on and on...................
