Authorities concluded that the children were not left with a baby sitter the night of the June 12 fire, as Mangham had initially told police. Authorities said the early morning fire was started by children playing with matches.

Love's attorney, Ernest Sharif, called the charges unwarranted. "We're in a very emotional climate right now," the attorney said Thursday. "Five children died. Automatically people want to make the connection it was her fault. But from a legal standpoint, it was not her fault."

Outrageous.

"They are also charged with reckless endangering firefighters and endangering the welfare of children."

I wonder what they did to endanger firefighters?

Free Republic’s copyright rules require that all material from Fox News must be excerpted.

Removing one word doesn't make an excerpt. In the case of a short article, it’s best to remove about 1/2 of the article.

Shakita Mangham, the mother of three of the victims, lied when she told detectives that her four children and three children of a close friend had been left in the care of a 17-year-old girl before the fire broke out.

The women were the cause of the fire, in the sense that they left their kids unsupervised. The kids started a fire that endangered the lives of the firefighters unnecessarily (that is, it wasn’t an accident like a defective fixture, but an act of personal negligence that resulted in the fire).

I’m starting to detect a pattern here.

I don’t like to be stereotypical or cynical but if history is any indication, any female with a last name that begins with “Mang” is a liar.

Terrible. Senseless. The two “moms” were bar-hopping while their kids were left alone and were burnt to death. They should be sentanced to prison as long as possible to think about what they’ve done.

And they should be sterilized, but we know that won’t happen. They’re both 25 and they’ll churn out plenty more kids, and raise them (on our dime) to be just like themselves.

Paraphrasing a local "community activist",
'this is a shame on the whole city of Pittsburgh'
'It is the fault of the city and it's past leadership that has forced it's people to live in poverty, how can these two young women be arrested without the past leadership of this city being charged as well? They have neglected a whole community and are responsible for what has happened here.'

Comments from previous articles on this case:
"There was no sitter, and the mothers were at a bar, and it's not the first time it's happened," said Brooks, of Homewood, who identified himself as a cousin of both of the fathers of the children. "Those mothers were more concerned with themselves and partying, and they had no right to leave those children alone." FROM HERE

The loss of life is tragic to be sure, but forgive me if I'm not a well-spring of sympathy for the "great society" mothers.

I grew up in S. Oakland...so I am aware of some of the ‘community leaders’ mindset. More have to speak loudly and clearly like Mr. Brooks. Those children deserved better...

The two Pittsburgh newspapers have been featuring this story extensively. Post-Gazette had photos of both mothers on the front page; the Trib featured the story of page one of their Local News section.

This wasn't the first time that these kids were left home alone with only an eight-year-old boy to watch them. What a tragedy.
