Pair told not to name son '4real'

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) -- New Zealand authorities have blocked a couple's bid to officially name their new son "4real," saying numerals are not allowed.

Pat and Sheena Wheaton said they decided to name their new baby "4real" shortly after having an ultrasound and being struck by the reality of his impending arrival.

"For most of us, when we try to figure out what our names mean, we have to look it up in a babies book and ... there's no direct link between the meaning and the name," Pat Wheaton told TV One on Wednesday. "With this name, everyone knows what it means."

"With this name, everyone knows what it means."

Yes, is means that the parents are idiots. Everyone will have that figured out quite quickly.

This is bound to happen, and to keep happening. Parents that are idiots will always give their children dumb names.

Reminds me of a Peanuts strip in which a child was named ‘5’. The dad changed the family name to their ZIP code to make things easier at tax time.

The child had siblings named 3 and 4.

GEORGE: Oh, no no no. Course not. I got a great name for our kids. A real original. You wanna hear what it is? Huh, you ready?

SUSAN: Yeah.

(George uses his finger to draw a number 7 in the air, accompanying the strokes of his digit with a two-tone whistle.)

SUSAN: What is that? Sign language?

GEORGE: No, Seven.

SUSAN: Seven Costanza? You're serious?

While I agree that parents come up with names for for their children that the system of government/accounting cannot adapt to, what right does a government have to place restrictions on child naming?

It’s the pinnacle of selfishness for parents to give kids vanity names like this. It’s the child’s name - not theirs.

They don’t. Society should deal with this on its own.

I could almost accept “Forreal”. In the same way that I could also be forced to accept a child being named “Holycrap”, “Ohnonono”, or “Justdamn” in honor of the parents’ reaction to the pregnancy test results.

But to stand by and allow two morons to brand their child with text-message babytalk for a name? No, I will not go there.
