Say goodbye to Office 2003, Microsoft tells PC builders
The Register ^ | 06/19/07 | Gavin Clarke

Posted on 06/20/2007 6:30:02 PM PDT by Salo

Microsoft is making Office 2007 its default productivity suite for system builders, less than five months after the suite's full-scale launch.

Say Goodbye to Office 2003

Microsoft will stop supplying (http://blogs.msdn.com/mssmallbiz/archive/2007/06/18/3384613.aspx) OEM Microsoft Office 2003 from June 30, Microsoft exec Eric Ligman wrote yesterday on the company's blog for small businesses.

The declaration means that Microsoft partners without inventory of Office 2003 must ship Office 2007 from July onwards.

Microsoft is making a heavy push for Office 2007 and seems to be now using OEM partners in the vanguard for driving sales.

Previous editions of Office have sold relatively slowly during the last 10 years, with a sizeable percentage of the customer base clinging to increasingly out-dated editions. That's a problem for Microsoft, as it means a key product in its core business isn't growing as it should.

Office 2007 is relatively early in the Microsoft lifecycle, having officially launched in January following limited availability in November, while Office 2003 was launched in October 2003. The older product still enjoys mainstream product support (http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/) from Microsoft and partners, while also being well within its extended lifecycle support.

Customers on volume licensing agreements can still run Office 2003 by activating the downgrade rights in their contracts from Office 2007. OEM Microsoft Office does not have downgrade rights.

Microsoft is running a webcast (http://blogs.msdn.com/mssmallbiz/archive/2007/06/15/3316782.aspx) on June 21 to explain licensing options to resellers for Windows, Office and Server products. ®

LOL, what? Of course I’m opposed to leftists, especially green party slime like Stallman. You on the other hand, are apparently going to defend him till your dying breath. Like Stallman, you’re believe in “copyleft”, not copyright. Your very first post to this site was an attack on copyright LMAO. Now in one post you’re trying to rewite history and act like your some sort of patron saint for the U.S. Attorney’s office? Hysterical, considering you attack America and our laws practically every single day. Here’s a quote of yours from just yesterday, do you recall making it?

“Maybe in a country with sane laws. Unfortunately, this isn’t one of them.”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1854688/posts?page=71#71

You should just leave the country if it’s not liberal enough for you. But no you’d rather hang out and push Stallman and aethism on everyone.

Here’s that quote of antiRepublican’s, the one above is the one he was replying to. Sorry if this is boring everyone else, but I do get a kick out of watching liberals make up every lying excuse they can come up with.

You seem to be opposed to copyright, but only when it suits you.

“Maybe in a country with sane laws. Unfortunately, this isn’t one of them.”

We do have some insane laws. Free Republic is full of people complaining about various insane laws in this country. The DMCA was bought and paid for by industry, not conceived for the good of the people. Even the more sane sections are for industry, just a different industry lobbying against the copyright cartel. And now the copyright cartel is arguing that section doesn't really apply.

At least now we have you on record supporting those who commit massive criminal copyright infringement for profit. And here you were complaining about me getting digital versions of albums I already own. What a hypocrite.

As you know I’m only time I’m ever opposed to copyright is when it’s used by leftists like you for what you call “copyleft”. You’re the one that can’t stand the laws of this country remember, I just posted your quote from yesterday. I was surprised you didn’t try to deny that too LOL.

See, you've opposed copyright in defense of criminal infringement. You either support a right for all or for none. You defended blatantly criminal acts.

I have only opposed copyright holders abusing their copyright to the detriment of the people and against constitutional intent, and lawmakers who expand copyright beyond their constitutional authority to do so. That is being constitutionally conservative.

You’re the one that can’t stand the laws of this country remember

You mean like the laws that changed to allow export of encryption and other formerly sensitive items to China and Russia? Pot, Kettle, Black. Hypocrite.

I support copyright unless it's twisted by radical leftists into "copyleft". I don't support socialists, their manifestos, etc like you do. I don't support foreign criminals who illegally crack US operating systems like you either. I don't make up lies defending them all either. I simply don't agree with you on anything. But is sure is funny watching you try to explain it all LOL.

"Unless"? The true you is coming out. Now we know you support massive copyright infringement for profit, as long as it's against people you don't like.

You are exactly like those who pirate Microsoft software and feel justified because they don't like Microsoft.

I don't support foreign criminals who illegally crack US operating systems like you either. I don't make up lies defending them all either.

Watch it about that criminal thing again. You see, those you support actually distributed millions of copies of software for profit without license to do so. Distributing and for profit equals criminal.

The guys in Russia enabled OS X to run on a non-Mac box, but never distributed one copy of OS X. No distribution, no profit equals a civil case.

Those you support are criminals. Mine just didn't follow the license for the OS they were using.

The only thing I ever have any use for on my work computer is excel, wordperfect, and autocad. I’d like to upgrade to a more current version of wordperfect, but it’s all bundled now. I don’t want all that other crap with it. Anyone know how to get just a plain copy of the latest wordperfect?

Your question promted me to install Open Office on my Intel Mac. It seems to work fine so far.

Unfortunately, I think you have to buy the suite and do a custom install and taking just wordperfect. I think Dell offered a stand-alone version of WP, but that was years ago.

Turned it off to play whack-a-troll for a bit. Can you believe I actually got him blatantly defending those committing criminal copyright infringement? Remember that next time he gets high and mighty about the law.

I'm LOLing all the way with evidence of you supporting criminal copyright infringement. Remember that next time there's a thread about people committing infringement and justifying it because they don't like the companies.

"Yeah, I share copies of Vista, XP and Office with cracks, because Microsoft sucks!"

"Yeah, I think it's okay to share movies and music on P2P because the RIAA/MPAA are rich, greedy, litigious organizations."

"Yeah, I think it's okay to illegally distribute millions of copies of Linux because Stallman is a leftist."

You're in with good, leftist company.

Well you are hilarious, constantly defending criminal foreign hackers, constantly attacking the US and our laws, the only thing in America you can seem to find to support is forcing evolution in our schools and your moonbat hero Stallman with his copyleft manifesto. Darn right I oppose you, and get a kick out of making a mockery of you too.

China’s government, like all communist governments, is standardizing on Linux. Old news you’re well aware of, as well.

Civil tort not criminal, as opposed to constantly defending real criminal copyright infringers here at home.

constantly attacking the US and our laws

I'm not the one who complained about current US export laws. That was, uh, YOU.

the only thing in America you can seem to find to support is forcing evolution in our schools

Oooh, yet again trying to bring in unrelated claims. Okay, we don't teach evolution in biology science, instead we teach theology. Then we can also teach astrology in science class, middle-age alchemy in chemistry class and "bad humours" instead of germ theory in health class (yes, germs are "just a theory" like evolution).

Of course they are. They, unlike US businesses, have full access to the Windows source code thanks to your hero Bill.

After seeing that, they probably blanched and looked for something else.

Well, if muscling and destroying (small) businesses counts, then MS is the ultimate corporate citizen!
