Yeah, when I was in grad school I did a little research into so-called "conduct books" for girls from the late 19th century. They were really quite popular at the time -- and surprisingly informative and sensitive. Today, boys are the ones who are most under pressure -- they're the ones who need books to tell them it's okay to be a male.
