Cruise Resumes Voyage As Crews Search For Missing Passenger

A Royal Caribbean International cruise ship resumed its voyage to Puerto Rico on Tuesday as Coast Guard crews searched for a passenger reported missing a day earlier.

The Freedom of the Seas turned around Monday to return to the waters east of Eleuthera Island, Bahamas, where it had been sailing when the man was last reported seen. The Coast Guard resumed a search of those waters Tuesday by air.

Relatives last saw the 24-year-old American man around 1:45 a.m. Monday on his stateroom balcony, and reported him missing about seven hours later, according to the cruise line. The man's name was not released.

The FBI and the Bahamian Maritime Authority were also aware of the missing passenger, according to a statement from the Miami-based cruise line.

The ship, carrying 4,141 passengers, was expected to dock in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Wednesday afternoon, a day later than scheduled. It will return to Miami on Sunday morning.

Despite his remorse over his missing companion, Bruce, Tom was able to wave to fans from the railing.

4100 passengers ? That’s too many on one cruise ship.

The man's name was not released.

I don't know why they say that. It's on our local news here in North Carolina.
The man's name is Brent Smith and he works for a construction company in Goldsboro, NC:

I think they call that a clue.

This has got to be near the top of the list for pointless feel-good measures.

Why is it practially always in the Caribbean? I’m thinking I’ll avoid ‘spiced rum’ heretofore...oh, and cruises to the Caribbean!

The water is too cold to go swimming during the Alaskan cruises?

All together, various members of my family have been on around 12 or 13 cruises over the last 6 years. So far — except for one grandson who consumed 150 COKES over one 6 day voyage (and could be seen to vibrate while attempting to stand still from all the sugar in his system), all returned in fairly good shape.

The trick here is to NOT get “faced,” don’t take up with strange people and DO NOT STAND TOO CLOSE TO THOSE RAILINGS.

Because I suspect more passengers cruise the carribbean than than other general area.

Also some of the other iteneraries are filled with either coldish weather/rough seas or both. Those are probably not the best to long drinking sessions on balconies.

Finally there are probably more 20 something heavy drnker on the sun-beach-filled routes than the northern clime ones

I’d have loved to have seen a 6 yr old after 150 cokes!

The cruise I always dreamed of would be Greece, Sicily, Italy and would be Celebrity rather than Royal Caribbean or Carnival.

I don’t understand how people fall off cruise ships, most people manage to stay on board without any effort whatsoever.

OK, so where do we get some BIG rat traps? Let’s start by putting some out around CAPITOL HILL and THE WHITE HOUSE.

I think it has become a popular form of murder, because it provides a long period of time before the victim is even missed, and then a very large area of sea to have to search with weather and fish with teeth to further obscure the facts and evidence. Also the easy plausibility of an accidental occurence, esp following a fruitless search.
