Sen. Clinton courts liberals, accuses Bush of corruption ...(That pot calling the kettle thing...)

WASHINGTON -- Trying to win over her party's liberal activists, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday accused President Bush of disregarding the Constitution and promised to bring a new progressive vision to the White House.

Bush's government has "a stunning record of secrecy and corruption, of cronyism run amok," she said in one of the more partisan speeches of her campaign. "It is everything our founders were afraid of, everything our Constitution was designed to prevent."

Clinton returned to the Take Back America conference where she was booed last year for opposing a set date for pulling U.S. troops from Iraq. This time, she said she is working to deauthorize the war.

Her comments on Iraq at the end of her 30-minute speech drew heckles, but she also won applause for promising to get out of Iraq and for embracing liberal positions on domestic issues such as health care, worker rights, education and stem cell research.

Bush was scheduled to veto a bill later in the day that would have eased restraints on federally funded embryonic stem cell research. Clinton promised to lift the ban if elected.

"This is just one example of how the president puts ideology before science, politics before the needs of our families, just one more example of how out of touch with reality he and his party have become," she said. "And it's just one more example as to why we're going to send them packing in January 2009 and return progressive leadership to the White House.

One audience member yelled, "Impeach him!"

But you wouldn't know anything about that, would you, Hillie?

"One audience member yelled, "Impeach him!""

Thats ironic. Her husband, the stain, was the only impeached one in history.

Actually, President Andrew Johnson, Lincoln's VP in his 2nd term, was impeached. Like Clinton, the Senate acquitted (by one vote) him.

The former led to the latter but I’m likely to cast my ballot on the Stain on the Nation’s soul.

And on a Toon-related note...

CLINTONS' NEW ESCAPE

I wonder for how much and who paid for it.

“the needs of our families,” “the children,” “progressive leadership”

The Beast offers up nothing but emotional appeals and Bush bashing. Nothing new here at all...

Actually I think the Bush administration has been one of the cleanest in memory. The Republican scandals involving money since 2001 have been in Congress (e.g., Randy Cunningham); the other "scandals" are mainly media fabrications allowed to become major PR disasters because of Bush's passivity.

That's not to deny some cases of very questionable judgment (chief among them, picking Colin Powell, but also Harriet Miers, handling of the border security issue, spending too much, not vetoing the McCain-Feingold bill, etc.)...but quite a contrast to the constant stream of scandals during the Clinton years.

Emotional appeals and Bush-bashing may be enough to get her elected. If she were to tell the country her real goals and beliefs, she’d have as much chance of being elected as Dennis Kucinich...who at least has the merit of saying what he really thinks.

Precisely the reason we can’t have the Clintons back in the White House. Ever.

Ummm.....earth to Senator...you cannot "deauthorize" the war. You can only deFUND the war......so file a bill that immediately withdraws all funding for the war......and you'll end the war if you can get it passed.

I triple dog dare ya....

Well, as everyone who pays any attention knows, she harbors left of socialistic views on issues such as child welfare, provision of health care, and profitable private enterprises.

I think the rest of her positions are fungible, determined by focus groups, and designed for emotional appeal to possible supporters.

If and when she gets in office, her sheep costume will come off and the true commie wolf will emerge.

One thing, I wonder after this election is over if she will keep Bill, or whether she will think he has, uh-hem, outlived his usefulness....

The Clintons, according to Dick Morris in his new book, have pocketed ten million a year from the country of Dubai and stand to get another 100 million from the same country. Talk about buying influence. Dubai won’t let Jews in and subscribes to the usual Arab/Muslim strictures, but that’s okay. The money’s green.
