PLAINFIELD, N.H. Randy Weaver, the symbol of everything the government hopes to avoid with convicted tax evaders Ed and Elaine Brown, offered advice to the fugitives and warnings to federal agents at the Browns fortified home on Monday.
Weavers wife and son and a deputy U.S. marshal were killed during the infamous Ruby Ridge shootout with federal agents in Idaho in 1992. He visited the Browns hilltop home to raise the specter of the botched federal raid and lend his celebrity to the tax evaders cause.
We said, This is it, were not going to take it any more This is serious stuff. Bring it on, Weaver said during a news conference on the Browns front porch. I aint afraid of dying no more. Im curious about the afterlife. And Im an atheist.
During the sometimes hostile news conference that had Weaver and Ed Brown shouting insults at reporters, the speakers and their supporters repeated their claims that income taxes are voluntary, and any tax on labor amounts to slavery.
The bottom line is: Show us the law, we will pay what you ask, said Ed Brown, who had a gun tucked in his waistband. They cant do it, folks.

Then move to a country with no income tax. I hear Luxembourg is nice this time of year.
Though his potential martyrdom is something we all may be able to rally around, his death or incarceration sure as hell wont help him with his tax problems.
You would abolish Luxembourg? What have the poor Luxemburgers ever done to you?
NUKE EM ALL! lol
Well, they were very tasty but I needed some Pepto afterward. Probably shouldn't have asked for the extra bacon and cheese.
Do not blame the Luxemburgers for what could just as easily be attributed to the French Fries.
Apparently, they HAVE picked their battle, and I say, more power to them, good luck, and God bless (Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition).
Point well taken. French Fries, carbs...bad carbs! No Atkins for you! (And now I will fall asleep.)
Perhaps they should have picked a somewhat smaller battle —like a local school bond. That would obviously save a lot of taxpayer money if they could have an armed stand-off over a school bond.
If I lived in NH, I’d probably go down there with sandwiches and drinks for these guys.
Notice that you’ve heard very little about this in the national media- they don’t want to create a tipping point over this. There are plenty of Americans who would empathise with these folks.
Sounds like they've already saved a lot of taxpayer money- theirs!
Sounds like they’ve already saved a lot of taxpayer money- theirs!
Right!
Tony Snow said that the tens of millions of people here illegally would jam up the criminal justice system if we actually rounded them up and kicked them out.
So if a lot of people break the law, we can’t do anything about it. Maybe this guy needs 20 million more like him.
I wonder what the people in Washington would say then?
Most people are fairly reasonable. Nobody likes paying taxes, but they are a necessity and the vast majority of people realize that.
