I was shocked until I actually looked it up. Duke Romance Studies. It's about the cultures following the Roman Empire: Spain, France, Italy, etc. It's not about bodice ripper novels.

I cannot believe that the family’s legal team would sell amnesty for the 88 for a few million up front. Unless they know that the combined assets of the 88 wouldn’t buy a used Volvo.

It has also been posted that the entire settlement would come from the Duke legal defense fund. Two thoughts: why does a university need 30-40+ million dollar cash stash? and why did the family legal beagles leave any money in that fund? The settlement should have been 10 times the cash available to Duke. If there is no (financial) pain involved in the punishment, there is no incentive to alter behavior.

I know a lot of people are jumping to conclusions, but the last I saw, the alleged rape occured at a party for a predominantly African American fraternity.

Unless there is information beyond the rantings and ravings of various bloggers, I would assume nothing about the race of the alleged victim.

How can they say they weren’t condemning the lacrosse players? They specifically mentioned the woman and condemned what happened to her.

Someone in the Duke administration said that the alleged victim is white and this was reported in the Duke student newspaper, The Chronicle. I do not have a link readily available, but you can research the matter at liestoppers.com
