And I agree that healthcare is not a “right”, maybe it is just the right thing to do.

Then imagine the clowns in the Capitol Building in charge of the purse strings of everyone's health care.

It’s not “universal health care”. We already have universal health care. We don’t have universal health care insurance nor a rational way to pay for it.
What they want is socialized medecine, paid for by all the suckers who will continue to work to pay the exorbitant taxes required by socialized medecine.

"Damn straight it's [social] engineering," she said of policy proposals like universal health care. "That's the point of government."

Jesus. I don't even know what comment to make.

My problem with socialised medicine is that once you've entered into an ill-advised contract with your government that now they will take care of your every ailment, the next logical step is that you're viewed purely as an expense.

Look at how the government in Britain views the beneficiaries of it's largesse. Notice how this cost drives the call for more and more legislation into our personal lives.

Inactive Britons cost the NHS 1 bln pounds a year

Treating illness and disease caused by smoking is estimated to cost the NHS up to £1.7 billion every year.

Smokers told to quit or surgery will be refused

Overweight patients to be refused hip replacements

The truth of the matter is the NHS cost the UK taxpayer almost 85 bln pounds in England alone in 2006. That's around 1700 pounds ($3400) for every man woman and child. So if the US spent at the same rate you'd have a yearly spend of over 1 trillion dollars.
