Your local economy can be down when the rest of the country’s economy is up. Your personal economy can be down when the rest of the country’s economy is booming. You have to look at the overall picture when you are talking about the US economy. Sometimes, it just sucks to be you. I speak from experience on this. :)

The economy is fine. It’s just that many Americans, bless’em, can’t count.

And have saving/spending habits that would put a sailor on payday to shame.

7 in 10 are always going to be in over their heads (no matter how well they are doing income-wise), so no economy will ever be good enough for these folks.

I answered all their questions. I was very upbeat on the economy -- nation is doing better, I'm doing better, I expect the future to be better, etc.

They undoubtedly considered your polling answers to be "outliers," and promptly discarded them.

It would be a lot easier if I didn’t like it here.

It’s not getting worse here. We’ll let you know when it gets worse, although there will be no question. Right now people are upset that it will start getting worse one of these days. They are getting their wimpering started early because early FedGov relief goes to the early wimperers.

I was raised in Michigan. I now live in Florida, primarily because when I entered the job market 25 years ago, I realized that Michigan was not a good place to look for a job.

There are some days when I still get homesick, but my wife would never let me move back. She’s a native Floridian, which is very rare these days.

Well, sounds like you either need to get a better paying job or spend less money. I don’t mean to be flippant, but there have always been people who struggle, in any economy. The difference is, it used to be that struggling meant living in a shack or on the street, scrounging just to get enough to eat. Now, “struggling” means not being able to save for retirement, or having a high credit card balance. Big difference. The economy IS getting better.

It seems to have escaped those dissatisfied ones about foreigners that come on board the U.S. to make a better living.
It’s Clinton/Carville all over again.
Once “It’s the economy stupid” served it’s purpose, their propaganda machine, the MSM, went into gear to trumpet a wonder economy.
In the final end those MSM propaganda- machinists forgot to inform us that Bill Clinton after taking over an economy growing at 3.7% left...a recession.
After 7.5 million new Bush jobs, incomes up, if this smells like recession... just wait should Hillary rise to the top.< /> These MSM machinists alraedy are re-polishing their upbeat skills.

I see that 7 of 10 Americans know the Dims are now in charge and already feel the heat of overtaxation.

But after the numbers were crunched, the results seem to have come out differently.

No you were one of the three, the other seven do feel that way.

Let’s see my Roth IRA is up 25.2% for the last 12 months.

I just got a 6% raise and a bonus.

Don't let facts get in the way of a hand wringing story.

I was raised in Michigan.

Then you understand. It's a beautiful state and far more conservative than our senate representation makes it appear. At 42 years old my roots are firmly planted in the rocky soil of the Irish hills.

Not trying to bring everyone down, but the forum posts sound like the government officials, out of touch.

I agree completely.

“7 in 10 Americans believe the economy is getting worse ‘

This is from the Paul Begala school of lying and messing-with-economic-illiterates. The economy’s slowing rate of growth remains growth. No tree grows to the sky, and never will. It’s all about soft landings.

Back in the day, if economies werern’t in depression, everything was rosy. We’re so used to Goldilocks performance, we’ve come to think it’s an entitlement.

We should be happy we’re aren’t mired in GHW Bush’s L-shaped recovery of the early nineties.

Stagflation - only Carter could pull off soaring inflation, interest rates and high unemployment.
