Liberals Celebrate 'Decline of Conservatism' By Nathan Burchfiel CNSNews.com Staff Writer June 19, 2007

Washington (CNSNews.com) - Liberals who gathered for the fifth annual Take Back America conference in Washington, D.C., on Monday declared conservatism to be in decline -- even "on the way out, "in the words of some movement leaders.

"Despite a decade ... of domination by the far right agenda in Congress and the media and the political arena, they have been unable to bring the American people along," Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said during a panel discussion on conservative politics.

"Conservatism in America is on the way out," she said, adding that "progressives are finally on the offense and we're not playing defense anymore."

The discussion, billed as "The War of Ideas: How Conservatism Has Failed," opened with the screening of a videoshot by Max Blumenthal, a writer for The Nation, who went to the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in March to confront and embarrass conservatives.

In the video, Blumenthal asks columnist Michelle Malkin, author of "In Defense of Internment," to sign a photograph of a Japanese-American internment camp (she refused on the grounds that Blumenthal is not engaging in "honest debate"); and he asks Ann Coulter why, as a proponent of "the sanctity of marriage," she's never been married herself. Coulter laughed and thanked Blumenthal for respecting her privacy.)

The video, which declared that the conservative movement is "in crisis," drew laughs and gasps from the liberal Take Back America crowd.

Conservatism's problem is deeper than controversial speakers and divisions within the movement, argued Rick Perlstein, a senior fellow at the Campaign for America's Future (CAF), which sponsors Take Back America.

Doesn’t sound like a “War of Ideas” to me. Sounds like the sort of gay crap Michael Moore gets up to.

This Blumenthal character sounds like a childish jerk going nyah-nyah-nyah at people he disagrees with.

Conservatism in decline? OK, libs, you just go on believing that.

“When you start breaking down the institutions of government and trifling with them, then you make it harder to govern efficiently”

Right on...and that is exactly what Liberals have been doing for the last 60 years. Destroying the constitution so that they can remain in power.

Liberals don’t want to “take back America”. What they want is to turn America into something that it was never meant to be; a third-world, socialist hellhole. And keeping our borders open and giving amnesty to 12-20 million criminals is just the first step.

RINOs and W are not anywhere close to being conservative. Conservatives have not been in control of the Fed. gov’t anymore than talk radio controls the country.

"Conservatism in America is on the way out," she said, adding that "progressives are finally on the offense and we're not playing defense anymore."

Hmm... Progressives are by definition offensive. Their progressive attitudes take pleasure from shocking and offending conservatives.

There is nothing passive about the so-called progressive movements. In fact, just referring to themselves as progressive indicates that they don't think of themselves as passive or defensive. The moniker "progressive" implies movement, which requires motivation and intent.

Thus, reactionary and progressive elements in our society are by their very natures offensive movements, and conservatism is more passive, as it tends to desire that the status quo be maintained by doing nothing.

Take Back America is a good idea but implemented by the wrong people. Why did we allow congress to investigate 911? We did not let Enron investigate itself. Why do we allow congress to administer social security? They stole the social security funding.

We are in a war for our lives and congress is worried about the legal firing of attorneys. Sandy Berger commits Treason and both parties give him a high five.

We need new leadership in Washington but some new organization needs to lead the way.

Congress is hard at work to pass a bill that the public does not want. We need an organization to rally around and it is not the Republican nor the Democratic party.

“Take Back America” should be renamed “Let’s all move to the socialist paradise formerly known as Venezuela”.

Very true--especially the comment about RINO's. The Republican Party has been drifting to the left for years now--so the last thing in the world we need is a liberal to head the ticket in '08.

If you feel that the Republican Party is just NOT liberal enough,,,

and you want to ACCELERATE that movement to the left much, much further,,,,

a LIBERAL like Guiliani is JUST THE MAN FOR THE JOB!!!

We do NOT need the liberal DREAMWORLD of two political parties to the left-of-center.

So let me get this straight: the liberals and RINOs offered up this abomonination of an amnesty bill to us, not once but twice, the population roared, and the politicians ducked for cover.

These liberals (and RINOs too!) are dumber and more arrogant than we may think they are.

This is akin to picking up a baseball bat and hitting the hornets' nest multiple times and declaring that the hornets must all be dead since they didn't chase you down the block.

Unfortunately for the liberals and RINOs, living in their LSD-induced dream world may cost them dearly when the hornets come out and sting them in November 2008.

Well they're clueless, but that's hardly news.

The broader issue with the conservatism, is not that the ideas are bad, but that we don't have anyone to reliably implement them. The Republican party is not a conservative party, it's the less liberal party. At the end of the day the thing that everyone in government always wants is more government. They want the people to be allowed to make fewer of their own decisions and the government to make more of them.

Democrats have the advantage in that they can say in clear terms that they want more government, and Republican are in the uncomfortable position of having to promise it to us, and then not deliver. And if we ever convinced Republicans to give authority back to the individual citizens of this country, many of them would be doing it contrary to what they see as their own personal interests.

Democrats in government and Republicans in government have far more in common with each other than either of them do with us. They are the anointed ruling class and we are just the Serfs who fight the wars and keep the granaries full. They would all be much happier if we would just shut up about this "individual rights" business and did what we were told by our betters.

Liberalism is trendy, in the sense of standing on a greased slope down to a cliff.

The Republican Party is what the membership is made up of. They know me and know I am not sending money to them.

I wrote Mike Duncan a letter in response to his “PAST DUE” envelope he sent to me, bitching about my having not donated a dime to them this year. I accused him of calling me a “nativist” and bigot, that the Party will no longer receive a dime from me until they stop Amnesty, stop acting like rats,. muffler Rinos like Specter and Hagel and tell the President and All elected officials to stop acting like dims and to start to fight back hard... like Conservative have always done... before the Party sold out to the Lotts and Snowes!

It is MY Party too! I will not quit or surrender... that is for dims and leftists. I still support Conservative candidates with funding... I just bypass the Country Club Elites in the RNC! I will continue on my crusade until they return to prior responsibility.

“When you start breaking down the institutions of government and trifling with them, then you make it harder to govern efficiently”

This is what it's all about. They want to govern us...govern everything we say, govern everything we earn and govern everything we do.

They sure don't want free people to put limits on government.

A constitutional government cannot be re-established until the federal bureaucracy, with its power to illegally write law, is confronted, made accountable and then utterly destroyed.
