Fred Thompson Goes Multimedia
CBS News ^ | June 18, 2007 | Nikki Schwab

Even while former senator and Law & Order actor Fred Thompson hasn't officially started his bid for the White House, his online presence would make you think that there isn't even a question.

Thompson's website ( http://www.imwithfred.com ) is multifaceted, enabling users, for example, to find their local media to contact newspapers and talk radio to show support.

Thompson launched a YouTube channel on May 15 featuring not clips from his popular TV show but videos of speeches and one from an appearance with Tim Russert on Meet the Press.

His social networking presence is also growing, with more and more people "friending" Thompson on MySpace and Facebook.

The conservative blog Right Wing World ( http://www.rightwingworld.com ) called Thompson's website one of the best, rivaling John McCain's "tacky" and "depressing" campaign site for its considerable use of black in its background.

Thompson has also made sure to keep his supporters updated via his blog about his whereabouts. He kindly reminded them to watch his recent appearance on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

"So stay up with us and watch," he writes, "or record it to watch at your convenience."

Well don’t get your hopes up too high and then you won’t be let down later when a) he doesn’t win or b) he wins but doesn’t live up to your expectations.

If he does 25% of what I think he will, I’ll be ecstatic. Compared to Jorge Boosh, B.J. Clinton, G.W.H. “No New Taxes” Bush, and Jimmy “Jew-hater” Carter, he’d have to be an improvement!!

I’m with you 2D. The guy’s in show-biz and has many experts in media to draw on, and should know how to pull of a masterful campaign.

Well, he’s definitely a contender. Be interesting to watch. I had thought all along (before Fredmania happened) that the eventual nominee wasn’t in the race yet. I never gave any creedence to McLame obviously, or Guliani, or any of the second/third tier guys. Romney seemed formidable, but slick, and anyway, a GOP nominee from Massachusetts??? So when Fred came into the picture, it sure seemed to me he might be the guy. A lot can happen, but he’s getting up to speed very quickly.

The Hunter campaign should take note of what Fred has done.

This guy obviously can't see past his ideological opinion of the candidates. John McCain sucks and Fred Thompson is great. However, McCain's site is far superior to Thompson's. His graphics are snazzy and fresh. Whoever did Fred's site didn't even know how to clip Fred out of the JPEG used on every page. It's not smooth and his head looks funny because of it. (I mean c'mon on... Do we need to draw more attention to Fred Thompson's cranium?)

Wow, so this lazy guy with no fire in the belly has set up the most far-reaching, sophisticated multimedia operation in the GOP race! Cool.

Although, I gotta say that I’m not too fond of the black and white on McCain’s site. I call it the “John is dead” look. Otherwise, you’re right, the site is good. ;-)

Fred will be the first CONSERVATIVE to run for President since Reagan.

We’ve been forced to vote for a parade of RINO’s since.

I will be EXCITED to vote for Fred, I suspect I’m indicative of the “base” of the party, we’ll see just how important the base is in 2008.

Fred Thompson has said that he will use the Internet "to cut through the clutter and go right to the people."

If you look at Fred Thompson's multifaceted website, there is hardly anything to it, so much so that it apologizes, and all but puts up one of those "Under Construction" images.

Thompson has been going through this prolonged dalliance for several months now, during which time he personally accomplished nothing. Not fund raising, or organization, or stellar campaign or media appearances. So far he has fulfilled his critics' Lazy Rap. He says he is going to run an Internet based campaign, but there too he is outpaced by every other candidate.

If I am wrong about Fred, please school me, but give me examples. Free Image Hosting at allyoucanupload.com

Oh, I hope not. Hunter or Tancredo would be a much better choice.

Marie Ragghianti says he is not lazy and was hardworking. He worked so hard and expected his staff to work so hard for clients that one quit. Couldn’t keep up.
Info found in the book Marie by Peter Maas.

However, McCain's site is far superior to Thompson's.

Haven't looked at McCain's site, but Thompson's doesn't impress me. It has an okay look, but it wasn't until I read about Thompson's blog elsewhere that I found it.

Also, even though I'm signed up as a 'friend of Fred', I can't view blog comments. No idea why.

If I am wrong about Fred, please school me, but give me examples.

But, you don't want us to really do that. Otherwise, you wouldn't say things that are so obviously false.

Apparently, some of you Romney guys have trouble clicking on those things called Hyperlinks on websites. Give a few of em a shot.

Is the site fully up and running? No, but it just came online two weeks ago. Since then, the blog has been added, which is obviously intended to house a lot of the campaign literature and quite a few things have been added beyond what you describe as an under construction page.

If you want to say you don't like his site, fine. But don't lie about what's there and not there and what's been done and hasn't. It's just unseemly.

No fund raising? Granted there are only rumors as to the amount of raised funds, but the rumor is that it was over $5M in the first week. Do we have the hard numbers yet? No, but there isn't any reason for you to lie about it either.

No organization? The campaign has been hiring people all over the place. There is thread after thread here on Free Republic. What's your excuse for not knowing about it? Lying again perhaps?

You Mitt people don't do yourselves any favors by attempting this obfuscation of the truth. If you want to dislike Fred or prefer Mitt, nobody really cares. But if you're looking to influence people to vote for your guy, spreading obvious lies and distortions of the truth are hardly the way to go about doing it.

Saying things like "during which time he personally accomplished nothing. Not fund raising, or organization, or stellar campaign or media appearances." which are easily identifiable as false, even by a casual observer, only makes you look weak and scared.

It's just not necessary, nor is it helpful to anyone.
