Religious Education by Parents is "Child Abuse": Center for Inquiry Proposal
LifeSiteNews ^ | 6/18/07 | Peter J. Smith

NEW YORK, June 18, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Religious education is a form of child abuse and violates the rights of children, contends a thesis to be considered by secular humanists at the Center for Inquiry's congress in Beijing this October.

The Center for Inquiry, an organisation recently awarded special consultative status as an NGO at the United Nations (UN) will consider the proposals of Innaiah Narisetti, the chairman of the Center for Inquiry's India chapter, that portend the next stage in the assault on the rights of parents to educate their children.

Nasiretti called the influence of religion a "severe shortcoming in the global campaign to protect children" and a contributor to child abuse saying, "In one form or another, all religions violate the rights of children."

"Such abuse begins with the involuntary involvement of children in religious practices from the time they are born," says Narisetti. "All religions, through ritual, preaching, and religious texts, seek to bring children into day-to-day religious practice."

"This gives holy books and scriptures, as well as those who teach them, an early grip on the developing minds of young people, leaving an indelible impression on them," said Narisetti, calling Sunday schools, madrassas, or Jewish or Hindu temples, centers of indoctrination for children.

Nasiretti's proposal would reject the long-recognized inherent rights of parents to educate and provide for their children's religious instruction in favor of regulating children's exposure to religious influence by world governments abiding by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

"The time has come to debate the participation of children in religious institutions," continues Narisetti. "While some might see it as a matter better left to parents, the negative influence of religion and its subsequent contribution to child abuse from religious beliefs and practices requires us to ask whether organized religion is an institution that needs limits set on how early it should have access to children."

The UN forum proposed by Narisetti would debate the "pros and cons" of religion on children and determine whether religion contributes to global child abuse.

"The UN must then take a clear stand on the issue of the forced involvement of children in religious practices; it must speak up for the rights of children and not the automatic right of parents and societies to pass on religious beliefs, and it must reexamine whether an organization like the Vatican should belong to the UN," stated Narisetti.

"Until this happens, millions of children worldwide will continue to be abused in the name of religion, and the efforts made by the UN will continue to address the symptoms but not the disease."

Thanks for supplying the links. Any suggestions, or do you agree that it is late in the game at this point? I would love to see us get out of the U.N., but I doubt that will ever happen. And thank you, Quix, for posting this thread. God bless you both.

Again, I cannot recommend too much that parents need to homeschool their children. Because it is illegal to do so in Germany now, I expect that, too, will be coming here.

How I weep for my dear, dear country! My people have been here since it’s Christian beginnings. And I mourn the hundreds of thousands of lives which have been given so valiantly to keep us free.

BTW, wagglebee,

I trust that if we don’t “meet in the air” it will be early in line for the guillotines!

They don’t realize that there are MANY Christians in China, thanks to the missionaries that went there years ago. Those seeds were planted and watered over the years. Persecution of the home churches and Christians there have only made them take root and grow.

AMEN! AMEN!

And the Chinese government KNOWS that persecution only makes the church grow more and faster.

But their Marxist super controlling mentality is addicted to persecuting those they perceive as a threat. They can’t seem to help themselves even though they know it is counter productive. Interesting.

The government also knows that Christians make the most patriotic and uncorruptable employees and supervisors etc.

It’s a stark contrast in a land ruled by corrupt officials.

If 30% went along with it...then, tragically, I believe there would be fighting amongst our own.

Anyhow...I do not think such a proposal will ever gain traction in this country, even if the UN were so foolish to try and pass it. It would even fail there I believe.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights!

God have mercy on our beloved Republic; and on FR. May He give Jim Robinson and family great wisdom, provision, courage, toughness, foresight and effectiveness in the coming months and years. I’m convinced Jim was reared up for such a time as this.

I join in your prayer.

I wish I had the luxury of agreeing with you.

Have seen too much evidence of far too much underground work already done to insure implementation of their goals.

Then, there is Scripture which indicates that the global government will be in place for 3.5-7 years.

Anyway—You are sharp and alert to many things . . . e. g. China . . . please keep us posted on what you know in such realms. It all fits into the growing larger puzzle.

LUB,

“they know that if they can accomplish that, the Buddhists and Hindus can be overrun without interference.”

I agree that the Western Judeo-Christian civilization is far more realistic in its approach to dealing with its enemies than the Buddhist culture that is totally clueless about evil nature of humans and always assumes that everybody is capable and/or equal to enlightenment/nirvana. It may or may not be true, but when an enemy is ready to die for his cause, your pacifist talks and worldview will do nothing but bring forth your own demise.

However, “Hinduism” and the Hindus in general are different in their approach. Although Hinduism isn’t a single religion, but a conglomeration of varying philosophies, most its history is based on warfare and “Hinduism” has a pretty ruthless martial tradition going back to ancient Kshatriyas who believed in fighting wars that defend Dharma(literally duty/righteousness/divine order).

Purely on the philosophical level, Hinduism rivals the Old Testament when dealing with the enemies of God(or more precisely the enemies of the Divine Law).

But I get what you’re saying. The technically advanced Judeo-Christian Western civilization is far more capable of withstanding the onslaught of its enemies and crushing them than any other culture can ever imagine.

They didn’t mention the teaching of the koran to children. It must be ok for kids to learn how to kill.

Oh, so I suppose you would rather children be surrendered to the government so the government can get an "early grip" on their little minds. It takes a village, right? Hillary will be proud.

The most disgusting thing is the Western Christian reaction. Instead of taking up the cross and the sword they simper and thank all concerned for expressing different points of view.

Excellent points.
